I really like that new Khorne warband, the main guy has some Mayan vibes. Oh, and I'm glad they changed the art for the new battletomes, the others look very lazy with the same art as the 2.0 tomes.

there is a rumour going around that I have found God. I think this is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist
If they made all of khorne look as good as that warband I would consider picking them up just to paint.

I'm glad to see they're finally coming through with the promise of CC expansions, but this is such a janky release, it's almost hilarious. Based off the Blackstone Fortress expansions, I kinda wonder if this was originally going to be the content of multiple expansions, complete with miniatures, but now that the models are released they simply combined all the paper content they would have released in separate boxes... If they wanted to include every miniature listed in the article, that would set the box price at over £120 alone (after the price increase), so there's no way they originally planned all that to be in one box.

I just wonder if this is all the expansion content Cursed City is going to get. The article is a bit vague, it doesn't frame it as "THE expansion for Cursed City," but it's also not saying "the first, with more to come." Since BSF only had four(?) expansions, not counting White Dwarf supplements, depending on the amount of generic Gravelord stuff needed to fully fill out the encounters, I could kinda see this stuff filling out 3~4 expansion boxes, with the models. The only thing missing from the BSF comparison would be new playable characters. They have the Witchhunter duo, but since those are also already released, I figure they would've just slipped those rules into this box together with the bosses, so... Maybe there will be a little more content after this?

I really hope in a decade we get some designer interview about how much of a garbage fire this project was behind the scenes.

Edit: Thinking about how scarce the BSF expansions ended up, if they don't discontinue this box after one printing, this might actually be a better way to handle expansions in the long-term, since the models are permanent additions to the faction. As long as they don't charge something stupidly expensive for all this paper...

Rules question: For Craventhrone Guard, can the Standard Bearer also be the champion?

Wording on the unit card makes it sound like yes: "1 in every 5 models in this unit can be a Spectral Standard Bearer." and "1 model in this unit can be a Craven Huntmaster" but my friends aid you can't, is there something in the core rules preventing it?

Desfore

So, unless the rules changed in 3rd edition and I'm forgetting it, as long as the role doesn't specify the equipment loadout the model has to use, you can make a banner bearer or musician a champion. It's more like... the rules don't say you CAN'T put multiple roles on a model, so as long as nothing in the unit composition or equipment is illegal, you can technically do it.

A "Spectral Standard Bearer" and "Craven Huntsmaster" are two different model types.

It doesn't say that you can give one model a standard and upgrade one model to a huntsmaster. If it did, you might have a case for one model being both, but it doesn't. It says that you make one model of each a different thing.

I don't like the way they paint the Verdigris on a lot of these models, but this mount has it extreme. The armor plates seem way too polished in comparison to how bright and saturated the verdigris is in the recesses. They probably can't paint it too weathered for the promo, but to me it reads as if someone's been cleaning the armor, but doing a half-assed job getting into the creases. And why is the mount's armor old and weathered, but his armor is pristine?

edit: I just noticed he has several horns on the sides of his helmet (not just the horn mohawk), and 3 nipple spikes. This is an incredibly busy model.

I would love the new Chaos stuff more if it wasn't so hugely busy. I know spikes and skulls are the aesthetic du jour for them but goddamn, imagine trying to paint any of the Chosen or this new guy.

Getting a little tired of it at this point, to be honest. If GW introduced a faction who's aesthetic gimmick was "big flat panels and clean lines" like the Tau I'd be amazed. I know that's kind of the Stormcast deal, I suppose, but I look at the Kruleboyz and wonder how on earth they get sold as a starter faction that's easy to paint.

The front legs look too short, like he would be perpetually hunched forward in a pouncing pose if on all fours and would potentially lose some freedom of movement with those armor edges going down into the space where his elbows would go during locomotion.

You can make kruleboys look good with contrast paint, they're almost made for it.

The chosen don't look too intimidating to me. I'd just spray them red, paint the metals black then brass and wash them. After that you can just take your time picking out details until satisfied.

Tau are extremely fun to paint though. Fire warriors are still great trooper models and the big stuff really lets you choose the path of most or least resistance. I painted some stormcast recently in metal colour's burnt metal with some washing and they were looking fantastic in no time at all.

E: new chaos guy on dog lizard looks a bit weird on that angle, but I'm sure the model in 3d is better. Feels like it's always the way. Agree it's too busy. Those chest spikes make me wish I had three hands (to speed up painting all the bullshit).

Yeah it definitely seems like there are a few different design philosophies at play with GW's new stuff. Some of the sculpts have really nice, crisp silhouettes and sweeping lines that convey a lot of movement and energy (Nighthaunt are especially great, and the Mangler Squig is probably my favorite AoS sculpt of all time) and others are just "well we have the technology to cover every square micrometer of this model in spikes and elaborate detail so lets do that I guess" which makes them both a pain in the rear end to paint and really visually busy.

It's cool seeing some conversions that push that to the limit - I know the grimdark style isn't everyone's cup of tea but seeing someone take the already pretty clean, simplified Stormcast aesthetic and breaking it down even further is really cool to me.

It was retired so I'd be checking ebay or local communities. It may pop up again as a made-to-order thing in the future but possibly not for several years. If you like something in resin or metal get it before it's remade in plastic for 2x-3x more.
