Aside from getting shot in the head, David, what have you done with yourself?
My favorite is a car commercial used M83s Don't Save Us from the Flames which is about a fiery car accident.

And also VW using Psychic TVs Roman P - lyrics "are you free are you really free?" Referring to Polanksi's arrest for being with an underage girl.

I remember this and always thought it was funny that they'd show a bunch of people doing family stuff with their kids to this tune when the next line was "With the liquor and the drugs.".

Target once had ads with Devo's Beautiful World in them but Gerry and/or Mark probably allowed because Devo songs in commercials is really funny.

Anyway, the most misunderstood song has got to be Angel by Sarah McLachlan. The number of people who dedicate it to their mom who passed away, it makes you think if they heard any of the lyrics beyond "in the arms of the angel." You know, the whole "you're so tired of the straight life/ when everywhere you look/ there's vultures and thieves at your back/ stone keeps on twisting, you keep building the lies/ that you make up for all that you lack." Yeah, that's certainly not a song about overdosing and dying.

A Finnish player was drafted to Buffalo Sabres a while back and what song did they choose to play at the news bit about that? Eminem's Buffalo Bill of course.

I remember seeing an automotive ad that used only the first line of the Dandy Warhols' “Bohemian Like You,” and then awkwardly cutting to a bunch of “Cause I like you/Yeah, I like you” and "whoo ooh ooos."

Fake edit: found it.

Also, using “Pink Moon” to sell Volkswagen Cabriolets is a little tone deaf. I know the song sounds pretty and lyrics are open to interpretation, but whatever the song's talking about, it ain't good.

Feelin' it so hard.

My new mix dropped a little early this week. Funky library and jazz with a little avant-garde pop thrown in for good measure. All vinyl all the time.

Next month is Rocktober and I am tempted to just play Dopesmoker in it's entirety. Does the Melvin's Lysol album count as one song? I know it is comprised of multiple songs but it is one seamless track. Thinkin' bout long songs now.

That's kind of an interesting one because that song being in the Volkswagen commercial renewed interest and Nick Drake and brought attention to his work that hadn't been there in decades. I bought the CD at the recommendation of a friend around that time and there was sticker on it announcing it had the song from the Volkswagen commercial. Say what you will that stupid commercial probably did a lot to keep his music alive.

I got an email today for a shipping notification from discogs. Apparently when I got drunk on Saturday I ordered a mint copy of The Reminder by Feist for $20. Happy surprise, especially since it's out of print and normally goes for more than $60. Hopefully I have a better experience than when I ordered Metals by Feist and got a hosed up copy by a German seller who refused communication and I only got my refund from paypal when he refused to respond to their inquiry.

And I got a whole buttload of obscure German dance hall music from the 60s. This is the world I was supposed to have grown up into, playing horn in an ensemble like this.

Oh, and I acquired a new needle for my cheap 78 record player, so I'm gradually getting ready to rip those exercise records I showed you all. And I mad a discovery, the glossy rectangles shaped like record jackets actually open up and it turns out they are the illustrations for each exercise.

Here's a couple of examples.

so there you go. The first known exercise records. If you want I'll put up all the illustrations but it's basically just 6 pics like these.

I haven't actually heard this one but if you like old electronic music then you can't go wrong with any Wendy Carlos records. Although I find the Tron soundtrack to be pretty underwhelming. Sonic Seasonings is a bit different from most of her early work because it wasn't an electronic performance of classical music but it was original compositions.
