I think it's impossible to argue that Punk went into too long and too angry detail on the Colt Cabana situation in the media scrum, but as more people are noting, that Nick guy was a bad-faith poo poo stirrer for the entire scrum to multiple wrestlers and Tony, and he lied about his agenda

I still think this is a work but I'm willing to admit I'm dumb as hell if it turns out to be a real shitshow backstage.

It just seems to fit too well into a wrestling storyline.

MJF comes back after months of saying Punk is a snake. His return includes a voicemail from Tony Khan that's presented as if it's a real negotiation after MJF called Tony a "loving mark". Then Punk has a loving meltdown that, if true, means he hates Hangman, Kenny, and the Bucks. And the whole time Tony just sits there.

Punk is either an arrogant rear end in a top hat with no self-awareness and Tony Kahn is too much of a mark to do anything to punish Punk, or they're both smart enough to work that into a story. I fully admit both are possible after typing that out. But "Punk has let fame go to his head and he's turning friends against each other" seems far too much like a story you'd write for it not to be a work, in my humble opinion.
Call me a mark, but I'm with you on this one. If this was a wrestling storyline, I imagine it's the exact kind of evolved version of Summer of Punk that either Punk pitched or Tony pitched to him to bring him out of retirement, rather than redoing the Summer of Punk beats like WWE did. This is a more layered version that could make a lot of money and put a bunch of people over along the way. The Fall of CM Punk is very intriguing to me and feels like a natural progression going into his second year with AEW.

Breathe.

I don’t think this is a work, but it being a work would be infinitely dumber and worse than it being real, simply because that would mean that the people involved think it’s a cool and good idea

I think a lot of fans instinctively side with Colt because he comes across as an amiable likeable dude whereas Punk comes across as an irritable prickly dickhead. Important to remember these are all people on our tv and we don’t know any of them personally despite how many backstage reports we read.

I think people also side with colt because they read the story and it sounds like colt probably wouldn’t have fought the lawsuit and would have not put the video back up if punk didn’t tell him he planned to fight it and that colt was covered

I personally don't think the EVPs were speculating to the press about Colt being sidelined because of Punk. Different wrestlers might have been but the EVPs would presumably be in the loop.

I can believe that they had to fight to retain Colt though and leaked that information.

If Punk has had a problem with this Nick guy since Death Before Dishonor, why was that guy even at the scrum?

Hey, thanks! I’m going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks so may not be as immediately present, but my goal is to not have to deal out probations at all. I hope that when I’m around to see poo poo getting weird, I can make a plea for cooler heads to prevail and move on. Wrestling is beautiful and perfect and stupid and silly, and I just want people to have a good time talking about all of the bullshit.

If the story about Colt not feeling comfortable working with Punk is true, it might have been the Bucks convincing him to stick around rather than talking Tony into keeping him.

Then that story gets twisted around by whoever else heard about it.

I said it before, but I feel like some of this stuff is growing pains. It's no longer a roster of like-minded people trying to convince everyone that they can do this. Now you have a mix of different personalities and different life experiences leading to disagreements blowing up.

When I saw that shirt last night I started to wonder how I'd fully explain that catchphrase to someone who didn't watch wrestling. I'm pretty sure it's impossible.

Billy Gunn and Sting are two of the biggest stars in wrestling in 2022 and I am very happy about that.

Edit: Tanahashi was right when he wanted that Billy Gunn match years ago, what a legend.

I agree in terms of giving his side of the story, though maybe he should have left out the stuff about the EVPs (but hey, maybe he does know for 100% sure that they're badmouthing him to reporters behind his back and is sick of it!). He said what he wanted to say. In a dickheaded way, sure, but that's Punk.

If, however, it's true that he threw the first punch at a Buck, then he did something wrong. We just went through this with Eddie.
