Speaking of which....quote:. “The King’s life is moving peacefully towards its close,” was the final notice issued by George V’s doctor, Lord Dawson, at 9.30pm on the night of 20 January 1936. Not long afterwards, Dawson injected the king with 750mg of morphine and a gram of cocaine – enough to kill him twice over – in order to ease the monarch’s suffering, and to have him expire in time for the printing presses of the Times, which rolled at midnight. It's not an official bank holiday so it doesn't move to the following monday. Alright if you work weekends I guess, but if you're monday-friday, keep your fingers crossed that she lingers. 10 days after today would be the 18th, which is a Sunday. While 10 days after tomorrow would be the 19th or Monday. I need to be clear on this,as I'm flying to Glasgow on the 17th and I don't want my plans spoiled by the Tan in Chief.

EvilHawk posted:Charles becomes king the moment the Queen is declared dead, despite not being crowned Terry Pratchett posted:The only thing known to go faster than ordinary light is monarchy, according to the philosopher Ly Tin Wheedle. He reasoned like this: you can't have more than one king, and tradition demands that there is no gap between kings, so when a king dies the succession must therefore pass to the heir instantaneously. Presumably, he said, there must be some elementary particles -- kingons, or possibly queons -- that do this job, but of course succession sometimes fails if, in mid-flight, they strike an anti-particle, or republicon. His ambitious plans to use his discovery to send messages, involving the careful torturing of a small king in order to modulate the signal, were never fully expanded because, at that point, the bar closed.
