I'm not saying anything in particular about this, but it seems as if a lot of people are already a bit tired of all of the mourning. Most of the FB comments on things getting cancelled are along the lines of "why"? "Normal" peoples opinion seem to be firmly in "why would this happen, stop being daft".

I did have to roll my eyes when I saw a memorial to her on a mall ad screen. Really? Who even cares about royals in this country?

A smaller number of people than you would think, but they all have newspaper columns.

I was thinking today about pharaohs and pyramids. And how probably part of the reason for empires having elaborate death rites for monarchy is that the actual event when they die like anyone else is fairly anticlimactic, and if youre allowed to stop and think about it it makes the entire royalty thing seem very stupid. So it has to be treated as a Big Deal for the institution to survive.

have your ears stopped rinning yet from all the gun salutes going off? (if they have started yet)

One for every year of her reign? Thats going to be a lot of salutes. Is this going to bankrupt the UK from all the ammo expenditure costs?

They’re all going to aim east and Truss will count it as support for Ukraine, finally ending the edging over WW3

I think Marx is right and we need capitalism to ruin everything sacred so that we can get to socialism without just degenerating back into failed attempts at utopianism or successful attempts at nazbol poo poo.

Pharoahs spent decades organizing all of society around their big lumps.

I have no idea. I think it's from the unpopular opinion thread, but it just seems very weird tbh.

Always appreciate when JB shows up in USPOL/USCE/US* thread and it erupts into a teary-eyed chin-trembling um-axshully we-can't-do-anything-the-country's-too-big oh-yeah-who-went-to-the-moon-anyway dogpile-cum-circlejerk within like three posts, over the most obvious, innocuous and true stuff you're posting.

Jesus loving Christ this country is hosed. Apologies for the vent.

Got a letter from the DWP last week dated 30th of June saying that a tribunal is to be held on the first available date after the 14th July. So naturally, it now being September, I poo poo myself and assumed the DWP had 'lost' my letter in the post so that I'd miss the tribunal and have wasted the last year or so.

I dug through all the correspondance until I found the right letter, and called them. The woman on the other end sounded very tired and said she'd check how long the average wait is for a hearing.

It's 190 weeks.

Just over 3½ loving years. I checked she said 190. I checked she said weeks and not days. Now admittedly, this is for Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit, and maybe they're prioritising PiP / ESA / UC appeals, but 3 loving years? for the sake of £20 or so a week to help me get physio?

I can only imagine that when I finally reach the tribunal I'll be asked if I imagine myself disabled when I masturbate. I can at least confidently say I have been living as a disabled person for the previous two years.

No Obvious Flaws

I can confirm that I went to the shop to get some fizzy pop this afternoon and no one seemed to be in a state of national mourning / crisis / giving a poo poo.

My work coach has also replied to a message I left them yesterday, today, so I assume the job centre is managing to keep themselves together and carry on throughout the grief.

CS has centralised orders for BAU on anything that is business critical unless it could be seen as controversial, insensitive etc etc
If anything's going on social media, needs to go through perm secs and escalated to no.10 if need be

sadly, work coaches being poo poo to claimants is business critical to the dwp.

It does certainly feel rather stupid, the amount of disconnect between the chronic tv watchers and parliament weirdos and the nutters out in the mall and, like, everyone else.
