I haven't seen Nothing But Trouble in 30 years and I'm absolutely fine with it being 30 more. "Grotesque" barely begins to describe it. I'll say only this in its' favor: it is a Unique Object.

Well that was...yeah. I mean, it's definitely not as repulsive or outright bad as I expected given all I heard about it, it just felt...needless. Like why does this exist (other than "Dan Aykroyd did a poo poo load of coke", of course)? It was more annoying than bad. Would not recommend.

It feels like a while since they’ve done a movie that is truly hateful. Like Eric doesn’t even need to say “it’s ok to like a movie” bad. Super psyched!

Really interested to see if Cabin thinks it’s a misunderstood gem or is just trolling.

I realise it’s Stephen’s baby but I think it’d be fun if the winner of the VHS game becomes the next host, so it won’t just be the never ending Chris Cabin winfest. Would allow Steve to participate too!

I don't know how he is now, but he definitely was not easy to work with back in the day, plus he had some substance abuse problems. So did the Chip n Dale movie actually use the Russian Gadget Cult as a plot point? That is the only thing im really interested in. Put it in spoilers if you must or whatever.

In fairness, he’s had far and away the best career of anyone in that Bob Fosse movie. The dude NEVER stops working. He doesn’t need to star in 2022’s From Dusk Till Bong, but he does just for love of the craft. And I bet that makes him fun to work with these days. I caught two movies fellow Eric Roberts-heads might enjoy: Skin Traffik. The guys mentioned this one on a Once In a Lifetime. Basically a Jason Statham movie if it were produced by Lifetime. Very fun. Mickey Rourke, Daryl Hannah, and Michael Madsen also star in scenes that were added on after the fact. Eric Roberts gets the top of his head blown off with a Deagle. The Specialist. Eric Roberts is a mobster. Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone are domestic terrorists who desecrate a church. Eric Roberts gets blown up by a tea cup. Also, aren't we owed a True Lies ep after they were supposed to cover it but swapped out after people complained it wasn't on streaming?

Just started listening to this week's episode. They'd have to pay for it out of the slush fund, but they absolutely need to get Eric Roberts on an episode.

They'd ask him to come on We Hate Movies, but then he'd insist they never told him the name

You should be rewarded with 5 points for getting the movie based on the obscure question, not the broad description of the movie.

The "cartoon panda as Chinese" thing has a storied history, huh? I think the Pandaren had to actually be run by the CCCP and were told "you've put too much Japanese design stuff in here, go back and do it again" which is pretty funny. Other than that, I don't know how much of a thumbs up or anything this stuff gets nowadays, either from officials or sensitivity readers or what have you. They certainly weren't involved in this!

GAM does episodes on that sort of right wing trash fairly often. They've done several of Dinesh D'Souza's "films". As well as Mike Lindell's YouTube vomit, flat earthers, happy science. All sorts of junk. If a movie sounds cool because of the title, that's usually the only thing it has going for it.

He decided to for some unfathomable reason base it on some incident where he was pulled over for speeding in upstate New York and brought to a justice of the peace in the middle of the night. After every director he pitched it to turned him down, he decided to direct it himself (something he had never done before) so the project wouldn't get canned. During production he literally didn't say no to any crazy idea anyone in the crew introduced, including himself (the giant babies were based on a DREAM Aykroyd had). The studio couldn't stop them because they were busy dealing with another trashfire (The Bonfire Of The Vanities). And the rest is history. Also there was presumably a lot of coke involved.

Is that like the story I heard Yeardley Smith tell about working on Maxim Overdrive where after each days wrap the crew would bring out cases and cases of beer, but instead it's kilos and kilos of coke?

I feel the need to clarify that unlike with Maximum Overdrive there is no confirmed use of cocaine during the making of Nothing But Trouble. It's just that it's the only thing that explains that...thing. Edit: A more likely explanation is that Aykroyd is one of those guys who just puts out a flood of ideas and needs an editor to go through them with a weed whacker. His first draft for the script of Blues Brothers was over 300 pages. Nothing But Trouble is Unfiltered Aykroyd.
