the scene director said its because he wanted it to be a power thing but she was into it so he buggered off. i more took at as a bit of that AND he also realized he couldn't just gently caress her as some weird spite against his brother. idk. it worked though.

i like the face he gives he when he opens the door to king goons mini colection room its very "oh gently caress i hope he doesn't know or she doesnt spill".

zoux posted:

Oh I think he was thinking about it. He was thinking about a lot of poo poo. Rhaenyra just didn’t give a gently caress, Milly Alcock was great this episode.

I know people are kind of scoffing at the supposed reduction in sex, but if that was a GoT episode, there would’ve been wide shots of full frontal under bright lights and orgy monologing. The scene in her chambers was easily the most stylistic love scene shot in the GoT universe, Thrones was intentionally vulgar and titillating, tonight’s scene would barely need a trim to get a PG13

its there but its not andrian gillian swallowing air to shut down his accent while to models fake sex sound.

speaking of sex sounds, i like that king goon is a goon in bed too.

I think I read here that prior to getting this role, Milly Alcock was living in her grandmother’s attic and washing dishes for a living.

Surely after her performance in this show, she’ll get a lot more opportunities.

Am I bad at watching TV or are they approaching the whole GURMy grey morality thing by making the characters internally conflicted and morally messy?

It seems like "morally grey" in TV usually means that a character has to sometimes contradict their own principles for the greater good, or that sometimes ugly means have good ends. Or just that the world is grim & dark no matter how noble a character tries to be. But in this show, I buy that Daemon really wanted Rhaenyra and he backed out because he couldn't go through with it in good conscience, but also that he was willing to press the play once he realized it was too late. Same with Otto -- I could see him taking advantage of a situation and using his daughter to get his house into the royal family, but not having Littlefinger-esque plots and plans besides that.

Maybe we'll find out Otto is some wily puppet master and Daemon actually hates Rhaenyra but for now I'm enjoying the ambiguity.

It’s pretty funny that Otto gets exposed as a schemer as a result of him being honest. And Viserys uncovers the liar by, well, someone else lying to him. This was a good episode.

That was a really good episode. I freaking love Paddy in this. All of his scenes are perfect.

I hope when we get the time skip and it brings in the new actors we get a full on animorph transition from Milly to whoever the next one is.

He wasn't being honest though. Otto basically told the King that they were loving in the brothel.

to me, otto isn't littlefinger or some palpatine type.

he genuinely likes the king but he thinks the king is too soft to deal with his fuckhead brother and that the realm won't put up with a queen because Westeros is Westeros, he also wants to keep his job so he sends his daughter to get humped by king goon so he can have son that will be accepted.

I mean "Game of Throne is a show about a little white haired girl being abused by powerful men while we lives in a age where shows should be about a conqueror-queen destroying cities" was my first GoT season's favorite review. And as "house of the dragon has toned down violence and sex and won't be like GOT" is similar. "Rape, in my GRRM marting book? More likely as you think".

So did Daemon back out because he was surprised Rhaenyra was so into it and couldn't just dominate her like he thought? His drunken stupor afterwards was great, though, as was everything with King Goon.

The running theme across the episodes so far seems to be that he has trouble either getting or maintaining an erection, and he kind of lashes out and broods about it which just ends up making the problem worse. He seemed extremely into things in the brothel itself (which aside from the, y'know, incest! was a terrible loving idea, so many witnesses!) until she started eagerly reciprocating at which point it seems like his spirit was willing but the flesh was weak, and he basically just ran away. It could be for any number of reasons, maybe he thought the taboo would keep him aroused, or he thought he would scandalize her and was getting off on that idea, or that he would make her feel vulnerable which would make him feel powerful in turn.

None of those things happened, and he had no idea how to deal with that since it means facing up to the idea that maybe there's something wrong with him and not all the various women he's with. Given what he said to Viserys about the two of them screwing around in brothels when they were younger, it seems to be a problem he only hit since getting married, which may be why his closest/longest "relationship" was with that prostitute, because he can have sex if it is JUST sex, but he struggles to be intimate?

I haven't been picking up on the Daemon can't keep an erection thing that everyone else is. He was having sex with Misarya or whatever her name is in ep 1, right? I think there are other reasons than 'oops went soft' that he ran away from Rhaenyra there and it's mysterious what they are right now - part of the plan to manipulate her, or he was intimidated by her, or struck by how inappropriate it was (doubtful). Also he was very drunk according to how much of a hangover he had the next morning. That tends to cause issues.

:3:
Everyone is talking about Daemon's dick not working, when this episode is proof he's a master manipulator. He went just far enough with Rhaenys that she couldn't help herself from jumping someone else, thus letting her teach herself a lesson about the ease of finding someone to gently caress. Similarly, he went just far enough that it was convincing to the spies he knew would be there, but not so far as to prevent Rhaenys from telling a convincing lie. Put together, it resulted in Rhaenys, who was now willing to marry after having been put at ease about the subject, becoming an unwitting ally against an Otto Hightower who his manipulations had already put on shaky ground.

Of course, it's no wonder he has become so good at this, having hung out with Ladyfinger.
