Hmm yes a car so slow it finished top 3.

It also took him 35 laps or so to do, Sainz got to P4 in 13 laps.

And you prove my point, thanks!

No, the Mercedes isn't as slow as you make it out to be. Sure the Ferrari is faster, but the Merc can still drive up through the rest of the field just fine.

edit:

lap times per car, between laps 37-46 Lewis and Sainz were super close

F1 needs to clean house and get rid of the pay drivers and old binmen way past their prime.

Make way for fresh young talent such as Nico Hulkenberg.

Latifi will likely be gone for 2023, but Stroll is probably locked in as long as his dad owns the team.

Alonso still keeps tricking people into giving him rides, and otherwise I’m not sure who else falls into true binman status. Nobody else is really a pay driver either.

Zhou and Tsunoda have not impressed but they could get replaced at the end of the year by other guys. Worst driver will probably be whoever Haas signs to fill schumachers seat.

Yeah Zhou has seemed pretty impressive for his first year. Starting to beat Bottas in quali a bit too.

Alonso is the perfect fit for Aston Martin. Like Vettel, he has a past and status which ensures that it doesn't humiliate Lance too much when he gets beaten, Stroll Sr can turn around and say "he's a multiple WDC, what do you expect?".

You'll never see some hot new F2 graduate in the other seat for that reason, people would start asking too many awkward questions.

Let's just hope Xi doesn't try to invade Taiwan or Zhou might get Mazepin'd.
That being said, Zhou isn't unlikeable so I'm sure he could/would adopt another country if he was given that as the only option to continue his F1 career.
It's a weird scenario to think about, but I guess anything is possible nowadays.

I'm really rooting for him to not be cursed with reliability issues next year.
