The algorithm can sometimes be good, sometimes... what the gently caress?

La-Mulana: Shows me Resident Evil 2 & 3 in 'More like this'... okay, I guess I can kinda see that. Barely.
Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition: Yo, check out Hogwarts Legacy - open-world, loot with stats, abilities and stuff. I guess that makes sense?
Dex: Final Fantasy XIV will probably play like this? Uhhhhh.... I guess it just grabbed the 'RPG' tag and rolled with it.
ISLANDERS: This is a colorful and very chill game where you place buildings on an island for points... so Steam recomments me Onward, a super-serious VR-only mil-sim with a PvP focus. Okay. I have no idea how it came to this conclusion. I think the only tags they share are 'Indie' and 'Singleplayer'.

It's okay if you have any questions.

The algorithm considers two games similar if their playerbase overlaps substantially. It has nothing to do with the actual content or style of the games.

My list looks a lot like what The Kins posted, so I'm gonna guess that repiv doesn't have adult content disabled and it's a legit correlation somehow.

Since the alternative is that the recommendation is tailored to repiv directly, ahem.

I've never bothered looking at the store page for any reason aside from just typing poo poo into the search bar for a game a friend recommended so I'm glad to miss out on whatever dumb algorithm poo poo Steam is inflicting on the user base.

I could have swore Steam disabled seeing porn games by default, but if you decided to turn it on for some reason or another that we can all openly judge you for, you can turn it off again on the Account Preferences page by unchecking "Adult Only Sexual Content".

I dunno, part of the Augmented Steam browser extension. Hadn't noticed it before? Seems to be an alternate indie-centric recommendation algorithm?

Meanwhile, the Xbox PC app is adding HowLongToBeat intergration which is really cool and everything else should rip that off super hard.

in the name of science i made a burner steam account and didn't do anything besides disabling the adult filter, and the related games are the same

of course you wouldn't see it if you stayed on the default settings... but still

I've been an AC fan since 2007 and I can tell you that AC fans are not divided on the question of if the modern day sequences are good. They have been the number one complaint about the game since AC 1.

i think it could've worked out if at the end of the desmond crap they did the modern day one that they were so clearly intending to head towards but once that conceit had been dropped and it was clear it was just going to be a content mill running for the next 15 years it did become pretty stupid and vestigial

Cause I've never seen an anime or a titty on Steam.

Steam algorithm once recommended me a game because it contained the tags “singleplayer” and “multiplayer,” which correlate suspiciously strongly with the tags in my library. This dig would maybe work if the algorithm was completely different in every way

Many people absolutely do need to turn off the “adult content” option though, it doesn’t hide things that matter like witcher 3 while it does get rid of most of the content from the terrible awful games on steam thread

It's 2006. I am taking 276 yeti furs from the goodies hoard.

They weren't thrilling in practice or anything but the parts in Valhalla where the Animus would glitch out and create giant textureless floating cubes for you to do platforming challenges on looked really cool. Something about seeing those suspended in the air in contrast to the surrounding realistic landscape was very impactful

Steam used to be really bad at recommending every porn game in existence if you ever played a Visual Novel (Not a porn visual novel either). It seems to have gotten better at not doing that.

Sure, but that's not a problem because 1 - they're completely optional and 2 - they don't interrupt gameplay flow. The modern day sequences in AC games are much more like the parts of Far Cry 5 that force you to stop what you're doing and do a much less exciting thing. There is nothing in the modern world that is going to rival being an AC viking, or demi-god, or ancient Egyptian sheriff, or pirate. In Valhalla in the first modern sequence all you do is walk around, do some conversations, and then *literally* check your email and read your documents file on your laptop. After that you can go back to helping the Great Heathen Army conquer the British Isles.

Unrelated: can't they just have a separate perv storefront because I imagine the people who play those games play mostly if not exclusively those games and people who don't play them don't want to even see them, much less play them.
