this is a total aside but i'm almost positive that for all the ideas of it being ancient peasant knowledge or whatever basically everything about modern astrology comes from a white british guy from the late 1800s

Lots of modern seance & mediums stuff has roots in upper class society after the US civil war, thanks to well-to-do ladies suddenly widowed. Had a big resurgence in the 1920s among a broader base for similar reasons iirc

Am I the only one who thought watching a drunk lowtax stumble through the forum handing out bans willy nilly, and some people reacting to said bans (not even permas or long probes) as if they'd been mortally wounded, was pretty funny? Of course I hadn't been paying attention to him and wasn't aware of his abuse which would have definitely put a damper on it, but at the time I thought it was pretty funny.

i mainly remember the thing about astrology because Gustav Holst who composed "The Planets" was a big fan of that guy

he was also a theosophist and look that up, because theosophy was wild. i think a lot of modern occultist stuff descends from theosophy, and that was very much a educated-middle-class-upwards thing

Nah he just stepped down quietly to spend more time working on an illustrated book about cspam, which people paid for. not joking.

No twoday actually stepped down as a mod because they didn't want to do it anymore. Didn't flame out or anything and everyone was like "woah, weird" lol

I think the story he told was he'd wanted to already and then when arfjason domed 3 mods with a single post he decided that was as good a time as any to quit, and I can't fault him for that

It was very funny, in the sense that it was a period of time where the mods and admins kept pleading with everyone to chill out they're, working on resolving things behind the scenes, etc. and then Lowtax kept rolling in and taking large dumps on the floor. Anyone who had to clean up the poop or might've slipped and fallen in the poop before it could be cleaned up probably didn't feel that way though.

i'm funny, i've never spent a penny on somethingawful for myself, my account and all my features either being gifts or result of charity drives. whatever i've spent has been buying reregs for people. i legit legit do not know if i would come back if i ever got banned, i'm honestly not the kind of person who spends money that frivolously and generally if i don't feel welcome i take a hint. for me that's the biggest risk with random or unfair bans, that some percentage of the people are going to rereg, some will flip out but some will just leave.

There have been times when someone got a 6'er, another person posted a QCS thread mad about it, mods closed the thread, and then another QCS thread was started complaining that closing the previous thread before the 6'er was up was them silencing dissent by not letting the person on probe come in to defend themselves.

Lowtax banned me in early 2020 for heavily implying he was a domestic abuser on twitter and graciously offered to unban me only if I apologized to him publicly to my massive following of like <200 people. Some goon PMed him the tweets in what has to be one of the pettiest slimeball moves ever, since FYAD was closed and I wasn't even around much to begin with.

I just remember thinking my last post ever on SA would be asking if the hot dogs at Five Guys were any good, and it felt fitting in some way
