Watching that flywheel winch log splitter video, I thought the trees looked familiar and the accent sounded familiar. And the license plate on the vehicle looked familiar. So I checked out other vids on the channel, and sure enough, he's exploring a mine within an hour's drive down island. Bonus running a gasoline powered pump in the tunnel to open up flooded sections of abandoned mine.

You did used to be able to buy dynamite in the US and people did use it to blow up stumps and it is certainly possible that the FBI was keeping track of who was buying it, sort of how you have to sign the book at the pharmacy counter in order to buy the sudafed that loving works nowadays and the DEA keeps tabs on people who buy 'too much', so it seems like an entirely plausible story to me.
