First: Sonic & Knuckles Last: Origins Favorite: S3&K (Multiple playthroughs on Origins just confirms that this is one of the best games ever made. CD is a close second due to the JPN soundtrack being one of the best OSTs) Least Favorite: Sonic & the Secret Rings (There is nothing redeeming about Secret Rings, even the music is mediocre at best)

First: unsure if I owned SA2 or the pc collection first, however the true answer is "the sonic adventure 1 demo at best buy where you fight chaos 4" Last: sonic lost world, technically. Most recently completed is sonic boom. Favorite: very hard to choose between SA2 and generations. Generations is undeniably the better game but SA2 is the much more definitive sonic experience, and the story was fun instead of barely present Worst: some interesting notable mentions for me. -In terms of what I enjoyed the least for time spent it's definitely sonic 3, as at 8 years old trying to play sonic like mario and never "getting it" I eventually gave up after many, many, many hours of not getting past the third zone. -in terms of what I'd least want to go back to, sonic unleashed was thoroughly awful to play from an incredibly misconceived concept to a terrible execution of the werehog and really bad controls hamstringing the daytime stages. This would be my least favorite if it did not contain rooftop run, however rooftop run is so good it punches straight through every other problem the game has and because the level exists I must award worst sonic game to: Sonic heroes sucks rear end and I struggle to find any praise I could give it Sonic 06 and shadow are top tier sonic games for playing while drunk with friends. I have not played the storybook games nor any of the old junk like labyrinth so I can not comment on those. Sonic boom is really bad but there's at least some joy to be had in experiencing what an absolute mess it is, which sonic heroes does not have ninjewtsu fucked around with this message at 22:10 on Sep 18, 2022 |

I love Sonic 2 SMS, it's just so tonally weird. Half the soundtrack has an overly serious or even dystopian feel to it, Green Hill is in the middle of the game, Scrambled Egg is an absolute banger, and Robotnik's fortress is made of crystal? Madness, complete lunacy; I love it, everyone who says it's bad is a coward.

outside of a small handful of levels daytime unleashed is overhyped. i would broadly call it "cool but very rough around the edges" - a daytime only sonic unleashed would be a middle tier sonic game instead of bottom tier

Sonic Unleashed is a game you could fix (performance issues on original hardware aside) with, like, a couple dozen changed static variables. It's purely a numbers issue making that game less fun.

The day stages are great and I have a lot of love for them, but the water running is loving abysmal and they only really get that right with time later on. It's just nowhere near as good as what Colours or Generations managed.

My main issues with Unleashed are that Eggmanland goes on too long and there are too many QTEs in the game (one thing I will give the Wii version is that they broke the final level up into individual stages and the Super Sonic battle at the end is actually a proper fight). Putting the homing attack on a separate button from the one used for jumping took some getting used to as well (also this is one of the few games that did that so I’m not sure why they changed it anyway) Also if you replaced the Werehog with Knuckles I think it might have improved things a bit to be honest Larryb fucked around with this message at 16:24 on Sep 19, 2022 |
