You'd be right! Which is why a gaming podcast was talking about it.

Little known fact indie game hit Vampire Survivors was developed by a mobile slots/gambling dev as a non-exploitative side project but uses many of the psychological tricks as those applications.

Good thing I don't like gambling. The only game I play when I'm dragged to a casino is pai gow poker.

Why would an ambulance be leaving the hospital?

I have ADHD and I avoid gambling the same way I avoid alcohol. It's too good, it feels too good.

Instead I chase those feelings by being horrendously bad with money in other ways.

Loot boxes and gambling are in part an accessibility issue designed to attack people like me who are less able to exert impulse control.

Did youtube just start automatically turning some videos into YouTube shorts? Not everything is properly formatted for a vertical phone screen and some of the shorts I've watched are nearly three minutes long. I dont like it. The lack of video controls on shorts sucks.

I kinda (not really) understand the lack of seeking in Youtube shorts but the lack of a volume level control beyond muted or not is baffling

I can't remember who but a YouTuber I follow was complaining about this situation where yeah it was happening behind the scenes without their involvement.

I don’t doubt Dunkey’s sincerity in this video, but as someone with zero knowledge and experience in game development, even I know it takes a lot more than “I play a lot of video games and can point out the good ones!” to be a decent publisher.

Best of luck to him, though.

ProZD has talked about that. YouTube is auto-converting a lot of shorter videos (like his old skits) into shorts which make basically no money compared to regular videos.

Just hope people who go to him for a publishing deal don't have women in pleated skirts and kneesocks or are a turn-based JRPG (or are inspired by one). He might be playing it up for the video but the idea of "I play a lot of video games and can point out the good ones" is an unbelievably naive capitalist take. "If we choose nothing but winners we'll be raking in the cash! We'll be living on easy street!"

Yeah, ProZD complained about it, and just look through Gianni's channel. Youtube created something no one wanted and is forcing people to opt out of it rather than opt in.

Lol yeah, dunno what Dunkey's thinking on this one. Good luck I guess? I feel like the video probably should have been a lot more serious and dry tbh because I'm hazy on whether he's going to involve himself in the games or just hand over burlap sacks with dollar signs and, like, tweet about indie games. I guess he mentioned he would let devs have creative control which is good but he also talked about how much he knows about what makes games epic so I dunno.

So it's auto converting videos and busting their formatting by throwing them into a vertical screen that slashes 60% of the image. Wow.

I think it was only converting videos that were vertically shot to begin with? That might have changed. Or never been a thing, I don't loving know, poo poo's dumb.

Also, creative control is good, but sometimes you need to force a creator to take at least some outside input. It is also occasionally necessary to force developers to focus or you run into the problem of scope creep, and the game will never get finished.

Yeah, unless Dunkey is really simplifying or misrepresenting what he plans to do here, what he talks about in the video is much more like venture capitalism than publishing. Which, if he just wants to be an indie dev VC who hears pitches and hands over a stack of cash if he likes yours for the promise of a percentage of sales returns when it's out then whatever, you do you Dunkey just be ready to lose a lot of cash to the ether. But actual games publishing includes a lot of project and people management, setting of deadlines, handling scope creep, and sometimes making the decision to say "nope you're done, cut out anything that doesn't work, do your best to polish up what does, game is coming out by [date] and that's final." In other words a lot of publishing is being the "bad guy" who's primary focus is not realizing the devs creative vision, but rather ensuring a viable product is made on time and on budget and will result in a reasonable ROI.

It’s not a review, but she has a video about how she bought the world’s only dryer-lint portrait of Dean Stockwell. Also one about how she found the camera negatives of the lost alternate ending of the final episode of Quantum Leap, which was formerly believed to have never been filmed.

Baywatching is top-tier content and she has done several other Star Trek episodes. If you have any nostalgia for it, there's like hundreds of hours of Charmed content as well.
