Calico Heart posted:Remember reading somewhere that every time Bill Gates or some other billionaire makes a huge donation, their net worth magically increases by more than the amount they donated a couple months later. Anyone know how this works, or have a source on this that explains it in greater detail? most rich people dont make donations they invest in foundations

it’s not really an investment if you don’t increase your ownership stake as a consequence they just move money from the “obviously part of my net worth” pile to the “plausibly dedicated to some good cause, oh who defines what a good cause is hmm hmm that’s a real head-scratcher” pile. most don’t even bother getting 501(c) status because it would reduce the range of things they could have the laundered money do, and gently caress it’s not like they’re paying taxes from which they could take a deduction anyway. depending on where you draw the “rich” line, most rich people donate a smaller fraction of their income (to say nothing of wealth, of which the non-rich have virtually none) to charitable causes than do the vanishing middle class or even the “barely housed”. philanthropy is a fig leaf over bullshit, and I say that as someone who indulges in it.

proportion of wealth spent on charity goes up as net wealth goes down is pretty well understood but i think the main thing to understand about people who are like Actual Rich rather than Not Afraid Of Minor Accidents Rich is that how much money they have is not a straightforward question, they don't have a simple bank account like most people they have a sort of nebulous quantum field of value that fluctuates with the whims of the broader market and public perception and what an army of accountants feels like saying. its hosed up

It's axiomatic among rich people that their philanthropy shouldn't actually involve them giving their money away, because by virtue of being rich they have a better idea of how to do charity than any activist or doctor or whatever, and so they set up a foundation that engages in charitable activities like charter school lobbying. I assume everyone over 65 is too leadbrained to feel anxiety

It seems like the point of philanthropy is to let the 1% cut out the governmental middleman and directly control public policy

It said there was no clear evidence regarding the effectiveness of screening tools in older adults because anxiety symptoms are similar to normal signs of aging, such as fatigue and generalized pain.

sorry if this is old news, but lol apparently fake onlyfans models make bank. girls toppin the porn charts by face-apping themselves to be younger. "A couple of months ago, we were shocked to learn that a model, Olivia Casta, had risen to number 1 in our top 25 list. She appeared out of nowhere, and many people began to question whether or not she was a genuine person. If you search for her name on Google, you will get plenty of results that lead you to believe she is a real person. At the moment of writing this article, she has over 950k followers on Instagram and over 100k followers on Twitter... her true identity is Maria Tretjakova and she is using FaceApp AI app’s Teen filter to make her look younger and more beautiful. Maria is a 35-year old Russian model" "Fundamentally, the goal is to maximize profits. The folks of the internet are deeply obsessed with young girls" https://www.babepedia.com/blog/rise-of-the-fake-model/
