No one needs to have an apology or not, no one needs to attack or be defensive about liking the show. At the time it was hilarious, but would cross the line often in a modern sense. The truth is though... it crossed the line for countless hours in a not so funny way, once Anthony went full broke brain racist. He nuked it when Obama won a second term, and was an alcoholic who finally saw the stars align when he got drunk enough to film a black woman. We all know she was allegedly a sex worker. His filming was likely creepy drunk dude heckler with his radio chops stardom giving him the courage... Then he got punched a bunch for it and decided to let his true feelings out on twitter. Who cares anyway, literally no one but our select crew and people deep into the comedy world would care enough to know. They couldn't stop their initially minor character flaws from growing into something that destroyed the show in a way where they are all equally to blame. Even if Anthony was a raging racist when he was younger (because of his dad), he could have taken Bill Burr's advice or Patrice's insight into race and changed as a person. And Opie could have avoided growing into his mother since he was aware of the negative traits she was passing on. Jim could have honestly been a better friend to Opie imho; he added to the whole thing becoming so petty even the pests were bored by it.
