Out of all the Assassins Creed games on PS+++, which is the best? I've never played any of them and with all the free ones included on the sub I feel like I should try one. Or should I just play the one with the setting that appeals to me the most?

On a side note, I've been trying out the streaming PS3 games and I'm pretty impressed, I totally forgot it wasn't local.

Here’s an answer from someone who has played all of them instead of the usual “herp derp asscreed Ubisoft bad”

Syndicate is probably the most enjoyable and tightly designed of the “classic” style games, which as noted before are still open world but more focused on missions and stealth and poo poo.

Origins and Odyssey are from the current direction of the series which is more fuckoff huge action RPG. You’ll be picking up gear and loot, selling and disassembling what you don’t like, upgrading what you do. Sidequests, ridiculously large map, it’s all there. You can still stealth and spec yourself out as such. Both are very good games. Odyssey is a little better but also twice as big and full of optional content you can burn yourself out on.

I would recommend one of those depending on which style of game sounds more up your alley.

Origins was the first Asscreed I played in like 10 years and I loved it. The world is just so well-made, with the way all the cities and towns and farming villages are clustered. It feels lived-in, genuine. That’s the thing that put me off Odyssey: it’s such a themepark. By the time I got to the Acropolis I was unimpressed, because I’d already seen like five equally-impressive temples here and there.

If you’ve played an open-world omnigame lately, maybe give it a miss. If not, though, it’s still one of the best ones out there.

Yup. FWIW, this is something Valhalla paid more attention to. Origins has it beat, because it feels like a game built around a world rather than the reverse, but Valhalla's environments are less cookie cutter than Odyssey's. I think they spent more time and care adding character to the different regions. That said, it's still mostly grassy meadows. But since it's so beautiful, I didn't mind it as much as I did in Odyssey, which was testing my patience by hour 20.

Black Flag is exceptional and was easily the best asscreed since 2 but it suffers heavily from tailing missions which they eventually very wisely ditched. I would only recommend it after someone has played one or two of the more recent ones and wants to play other good entries in the series.

Word of warning: Do not play Syndicate on PS5. As far as I’m aware the enormous problems with the dynamic time of day lighting were never patched. Almost every shadow in the game flickers in and out of existence multiple times a second and it really sucks.

No, it's a leaderboard thing - end game ships are generated weekly and people compete for a top score, each week it resets and a new ship is generated. You can track friends but not work on it together.
The devs posted a multiplayer teaser on their Twitter a few months back but also said they're really held back and not sure it can happen due to the engine/way it's built.

Farewell, good Hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.

Origins has been the only AC I’ve liked out of the big recent three. It’s “The Punisher: Egypt edition.” It’s rad and the main character has a compelling reason for everything they do. Odyssey is second best only because the world is so crazy beautiful and big, Cassandra rocks, but that game was just all in all way too loving much of itself. Valhalla was not good. It’s so god damned repetitive and unengaging and it’s as if they wrote the plot by like gaping acid blotters until they saw god.

You can’t even buy it on the ps5 store, I’ve never been interested in the assassins creed games but when I got ps plus extra I was looking for it to see if it was one of the free ps plus games, specifically because Austin Wintory (who composed the Journey, Abzu, and The Pathless soundtracks) composed the score for Syndicate and yeah it’s apparently unplayable.

So Hardspace question, is there any big problem with dying while working beyond the cost? Which seems like $100k or so for a respawn? I only ask because when pulling in $4mil a shift, there doesn’t seem to be much of any consequence.

The ps5 version aint janky anymore, 1.5 is good and full release and now the patches keep adding good stuff. 1.6 is great.

Also the remote play thing is weird cos the touch pad becomes the phone screen marker and the marker has to be over the remote play screen to use the touchpad button, if it aint, it wont work. Has to be the correct side of the screen too.

Hardspace, those giant quasar engines are hair raising as gently caress. So I’ve been tethering the engine to the back wall behind me, cutting the four fuel line connections, and then as soon as the tether yoinks the engine out I’m racing as fast as I can through the body of the nacelle to the front wall to hit the fuel cutoff switch. First few times I figured this out I was literally flying through fire to get to it. I don’t see any other way to do these. I’ve only had two blow up in my face so far. One from hitting the fuel line and engine with the cutter on accident (big boom), another that burned for too long and then seemed to crush me when it exploded with me inside it.

I have done a few now. I actually think the tug or hauler (whichever one has the two be front plow looking things on it and two quasar engines) is bugged because whenever you try to turn off the fuel, as the engine splits in half it crushes you. Other engines don’t do that. Although, I’ve started to definitely rely on setting a tether on the engine itself to yoink it out of the way the moment all 4 fuel pipe connections are cut so I can race in there as fast as possible to pull the switch. I also read that as soon as you pull the switch, turn around to face back towards the engine, and somehow that prevents you from getting crushed.

Quasar engine disassembly is definitely the most nerve wracking thing to do in the game. Even getting the tethers to pull the giant nacelle parts into the processor is a hefty task. God drat it’s such a rad game. Especially as you get better imaging techniques for objects and the like.

We need a shipbreaker gangtag.
