It's a piece of JUNK!
So I'm doing this self-guided online course for work to learn about mainframe computer stuff, licensed from one of those Indian companies that's obviously not putting a huge amount of time and care into it. I guess to keep things interesting, for one assignment they pulled a list of stuff from IMDB to use as data. Noticed a few interesting titles on there.

Wait hold on a second, what's...

Was anyone in Berkeley last night? What happened during 1,000,000? It seemed like he just stopped playing it halfway through.

Other than, fantastic show. Hard to believe how good they still sound. And that version of Closer is awesome, it's cool when a band takes a hit that's been played to death and makes it fresh.

Robin equipment was out of tune/he hosed up. I thought trent would sing in a lower tone like he does in Last, but he didn't. Alessandro went out of stage and said something to Robin on the way. Song went to the first chorus and then Trent stopped it.

I made an original design NIN shirt, please take a look. Maybe even order one or two. It's an open pre-order that's going until 10/31. I put a lot of thought and effort into the design while also keeping it as simple as possible. Much attention to little details in the typography and arrangements. There's even an Easter egg in there.

My store: https://twiceasquit.bigcartel.com/product/ykwya-shirt

Also I was the guy who did those neat little TDS spiral pins last(?) year. I think one or two goons bought one.

Spread the word, I need to sell 50 or so to not take a bath on this.

Wasn't Broken around the time NIN played shows with Pantera? I just have vague memories of Trent drinking with Dimebag for some reason, and Broken always felt like it was influenced by playing shows with Pantera to some degree. I know there was the poo poo flinging between Trent & Al in the liner notes for Psalm 69 and Broken, but I'd say every NIN album has always had a very distinct sound and evolution. Hesitation Marks was so long ago now and I know they released those EPs which are essentially an album anyways but I'm excited for a new NIN album whenever they get around to making one.

Didn't Trent say in an interview with Halsey that the timing was really good for them because they were stuck with the writing of a new NIN album and working on that project with her got them out of a rut?

Wasn't Head Like A Hole one of the last songs written for PHM? I feel like there's not too much distance between that and Broken. Mostly just the production. It seems like he was heading in that direction even at that point.

My impression is that after he made it “big” with PHM he started hanging around the WaxTrax! crew and other unsavory characters which pushed him in a more extreme direction to stand out. There was 1000 Homo DJs with Al, a bit with Pigface, and he shows up in a video for Lead Into Gold (Paul Barker side project).

I don't remember hearing about them opening for Pantera but I guess it wouldn't be any weirder than them opening for Guns N' Roses.

I think the last song for that era was Get Down Make Love for the Sin single which perfectly bridges the sound between PHM & Broken imo.

Trent was a roadie for Ministry before NIN. At a show in '87 Al apparently said "Listening to Ministry is like having a nine inch nail hammered into your head like a hole." as well and Trent also used a sample from a taping of it in the song itself.

I tried searching and can't find anything so I'm probably wrong, but in the process I found some cool trivia that Dimebag was a huge NIN fan and the vocals for Head Like A Hole inspired the vocals for one of the tracks on Vulgar Display of Power. Maybe I'm thinking of one of Pantera's home videos?

I'll believe this horseshit sounding story when I can hear this alleged sample or TR confirms it. The phrasing is too awkward to be a real thing someone said naturally; I'd believe Al said it after being becoming aware of the band name and song title.

I believe all of Al's stories about how his projects got named. Even the 1,000 Homo DJs story where there's two different stories about who said it and it makes about as much sense as the NIN one.

Trent said La Mer was written when he was in a really dark place but now it feels redemptive to him

I really liked Trent describing to the band how to play the songs live "First shows playing Terrible Lie it's not D - E or whatever it is, it's gently caress YOU[...] and I mean that, it wasn't about hitting the right note even. The point of the band was to help articulate the message of the music"

I've never heard this before and I'm not entirely sure it's true. Pretty sure Trent was living in Cleveland and in bunch of local bands in the 80s and I'm not sure where he would have found time to be a roadie for Ministry.

idk since Al has always said whatever he feels like saying but here's the story. and i don't think reznor went on the road with ministry as anything other than a performer either way. But it might be true about RevCo

Al posted:

That’s actually how I met Trent Reznor. I accidentally spilled beer on my four-track machine during a Revolting Cocks tour in Cleveland and broke it, and we couldn’t get fixed in time for the show. The people at the club said they knew this local kid who had the exact same four-track. We brought him over and rented the gear from him, and then we said, “We’re taking this.” Trent said, “No, you’re not taking this. You already destroyed one and you’re not going to destroy mine.” So, he came on the road with us. Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails was Revolting Cocks’ roadie.

Can’t find a source but I do remember reading an interview where Trent said there was no particular significance behind Nine Inch Nails, he just came up with a few names a day and it was the first one he didn’t hate when he woke up the next morning.

The way I heard it he came up with the name because he liked the way NiN looked and figured out the words later. From all interviews and such the name itself has no particular meaning.
