https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeZstV95t-E These videos have probably been posted before. Keep coming new ones though. It's basically all the same content. Most (all, really.. the road is closed a lot of the time) of the fails are people just being idiots, but I must say some cars seem to be overly sensitive to water. Like barely touches the lower bumper and still gets screwed. MrOnBicycle fucked around with this message at 15:43 on Oct 11, 2022 |

Likewise some cars steam through getting water way up the bonnet and seem to escape unscathed! A mystery! I did laugh at one video with a Jaguar EV that shat itself after driving through. If there's one type of car I'd expect to get through this with no issues it's an EV but of course Jaguar have produced one that can't get wet!

Matt is great. Sometimes your dreams are dumb. Make new, better mistakes. Yes. Technology connections on the "sealed beam" headlights. I've heard of them but as a non-american it was always confusing how you'd just have exactly one possible headlight like it was the soviet union or something. Now I now, and it actually made more sense than I thought. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2J91UG6Fn8 Speaking of which, he uses several clips of a Gaz-21 Volga for some reason. I've never looked into it but it'd be interesting if it actually uses a similar headlight since it was heavily "inspired" by American cars. mobby_6kl fucked around with this message at 12:46 on Oct 20, 2022 |

I like how he points out how older vehicles which used sealed beams, as well as the more utilitarian vehicles that still use them, are almost trivial to properly upgrade to modern lighting technology because the optics go with the bulb. It's easier for a car from the '70s to be upgraded to LED headlights than my 2015.

To be absolutely fair, the cheap LED sealed-beam retrofits are as garbage as any affordable LED solution for any other production car. Holley Retrobright lights are $400, but at least that exists whereas you're poo poo out of luck for most vehicles.

Not quite as compelling as previous videos, but that car is insane. Vegas is just parking structures and straight roads. Ken and Scotto did a video about the car itself, and they said they went through over 100 tires for this video, where previous gymkhanas went through about 40. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsa-SxpiCU0 Of course the Germans were going to engineer the poo poo out of everything.

No real engine noise really does take away from gymkhana, doesnt it? The E-Audi does slay tyres like a Aussie burnout car but... yeah it's kinda cold and not really compelling?

It's part ~carburator dead simple~ and part ~magic high power thinking rocks~ and part ~HAL is holding your hand~. Depending on the setup.

I love the technical deep dive that Hoonigan did so as a engineering project it's right up there as awesome. I'ld love to drive it in anger, dont get me wrong. Watching is just emotionally lacking esp compared to say the real Audi S1 and it's noise.

It's different, that's for sure, I'm on the fence. I like that they didn't sugar coat it with soundtrack or shove fake sounds in it - that's apparently what it really sounds like, which has its own charm of sorts, sounds like the future. Edit: As opposed to EV street cars that sound of nothing.

CAT INTERCEPTOR posted:No real engine noise really does take away from gymkhana, doesnt it? I wonder how much of this is just the noise not translating well through speakers and/or the post production they did on the audio. I bet it sounds at least a little better in person but I agree that it's missing a lot in the sound department. The other thing is that, at least by the standards of prior Gymkhana videos, the stunts in this were very tame. Given the huge margins on most of the turns it seemed like this was focused almost entirely on "death to tires" instead of "killing tires while also drifting with the rear tires hanging off the edge of whatever is being driven on".
