That is fair tho, DRG relies heavily on you enjoying the core loop and co-op experience, it’s pretty quick to exhaust the content if you don’t enjoy it for its own sake. I don’t personally play DRG ‘full time’, I’ve only just now passed 500 missions completed and I’ve owned it since early access, it’s just a perfect little game to pick up now and then, see the new stuff, enjoy the loop, add a little more wear to your V key, then set down until next time.

With regard to DRG’s new seasons since someone mentioned them, they’re not monetized at all, even indirectly, and at the end of each season all the cosmetics from the battle pass levels and cosmetic tree get tossed into the general cosmetic core pool. It never goes away, a year from now a new player will be getting cosmetics from today’s season, they just won’t be able to target/expect specific ones. Initially I thought adding a time-limited meta progression component to keep players engaged was distasteful but here in reality it’s 2022 and the modern gamer brain demands that poo poo.

My personal issue is that as someone who plays DRG irregularly the Battle Pass has my monkey brain wanting to see numbers go up, but it feels impossible to take a break without only doing challenges when I do return to play. And challenges don’t line up with the regular progression often enough between me and my friends, so we find ourselves doing promotions and weekly core hunts instead with the little we play.

I guess the point for me is that Battle Passes feel like an extra accomplishment or achievement that I want to obtain at my leisure and the fact that most are time limited bugs me. Before Halo Infinite came out with their Battle Pass model, the only similar thing I could point to was Guild Wars 2 with its Reward Tracks for PvP and WorldvWorld. You get a bunch of them, they last forever outside of yearly timed events like Halloween, and you can easily swap and choose which track your regular play experience goes towards without any extra challenges needed.

That’s what I want for Overwatch 2:
* Season Passes that last forever with past passes available in the shop
* Holiday Passes as the extra tension of what to do with your time
* Ability to swap which pass your experience is going towards at any time
* Your level experience goes towards your battle pass at the same rate your account level grows in OW1 so the play-with-friends bonus (and that BS premium pass xp bonus) speeds you through. I could be misremembering the rate but it felt like I’d level up once per 30 min of playtime with friends. I’m probably very off over this metric.
* Ideally no challenges or at least they’re not necessary for you to finish the pass in about a month of regular play time (Assuming 20 hours a month for 5 hours a week because people got jobs and families). Instead challenges would mostly be there for earning extra shop coins so you can go “infinite”.

TF2 has its own contracts, funnily enough, and the Jungle Inferno campaign is lasting basically forever; you can still buy a $2.50 pass and do all the contracts for the rewards now, almost five years since the update was released.

I guess that's one solution to the Battlepass problems. You just have one Battlepass for ever and never retire it.

gundam evolution isn't a Good game, but it's fairly fun, and to me it's certifiable proof that leaning into healers and tanks was the ultimate death knell for this game. 2/2/2 was an absolute mistake, 1/3/2 would have been far superior, but at this point probably the only thing that could genuinely make the game fun and wildly popular at the expense of the 500 people who still love it, would be to just neuter in combat healing massively and then buff all the supports in post.

So how exactly do seasonal skins work with the transition to Overwatch 2? Have they said that they aren't going to be available to buy again in the future?

There will be weekly(!) bundles in the shop, so there will almost guaranteed be seasonal skins available for purchase (old and new, safe to assume). Not with OW fun bux, most likely, but with their new hard OW cash derivate.

They had an OW1 "event" one or two weeks back where they opened the seasonal vault "one last time" to make all skins purchasable with coins.

Nice so you fall into the category of people that actually likes Overwatch and classes that increase TTK, and not the category that thinks snapping headshots is the only skill worth considering because its an FPS.

Gundam is new, so can be taken at face value as a product of 2022 and judged as such.

Overwatch 2 is literally a patch that completely updates/replaces the base game of Overwatch which for the past six and a half years has been a premium purchase game in which all players received all gameplay content, most importantly new characters, simultaneously. Overwatch becomes Overwatch 2, there are no distinct new products here, only a change in labeling used both for marketing purposes to try bring people back to a floundering IP and to try bamboozle consumers into not realizing they've just been hosed over and are being asked to hand over more cash for something they already bought.

Gundam is really fun and plays very differently from overwatch. It feels a bit more like TF2.

Too bad the art is so bland. Monetization is also trash, but luckily the cosmetics are also very poo poo so you really wouldn't want any. The only thing worth spending money is Gundams, but 10€ for a character is loving stupid.

They spotted the mistake fairly early once Brig showed up and started bopping Tracers and Genjis in the face- that once Dive stopped being viable fights were going on far too long where nobody was dying and it took nothing less then a fight-ending ultimate to close out an encounter between teams- but they made the wrong call how to fix it. They started upping the damage across the board instead of cutting tank durability and healing values, afraid of making tanks and supports feel less 'special' and instead wound up creating a game where the DPS role is pointless because a) Everybody dealt a ton of damage so being the role good at it didn't matter, and b) Most DPS didn't have the durability to actually let supports do their job in the new high-damage environment anyways so they could never survive to deal their higher damage anyways, and then instead of walking it back they had to create role queue in order to force DPS back into the game at higher ranks because despite everything it was still the most popular role casually, creating a disconnect where your average Quick Play game was like four DPS with maybe a tank and a support while if said player clicked to watch the OWL from the B.net launcher the games they'd see consisted almost entirely of the same 3-4 Tanks and 2-3 Supports mashing into each other with maybe a specialist sneaking in a Sombra or a Mei every so often.
