Yeah, but I bet it looked silly when they sang the anthem in 1997 as well. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/sep/25/labour-conference-delegates-sing-national-anthem-for-first-time-keir-starmer quote:Keir Starmer has led Labour members in tributes to the Queen and a rendition of the national anthem – the first time the anthem has been sung at the party’s conference. Oh.

I wonder if they sang the anthem before or after the Red Flag. Either way it's a farce, Labour is deceased. The sooner unions move away from it the better.

radmonger posted:A Lib Dem voter is, more or less by definition, someone who won’t vote for Starmer’s Labour. And this does seem to be usually because they consider it too ‘left wing’. I’m not sure I agree with this, I think there are large numbers of people who vote Lib Dem because it’s the only party that can beat the Tories in their constituency. Labour are very unlikely to ever win where I live, so I am forced to hold my nose and vote Lib Dem despite swearing I never would, because anything else is a de facto vote for Tory guy, who is a complete and utter poo poo. Bring in PR, and you have a huge number of essentially disenfranchised people who can suddenly vote for the party they really want.

I know someone who's an active and organising member of the lib dems and even their own data suggests this is wrong. It wasn't a problem under Corbyn but losing votes to Starmer is a real concern for them as so many of their core voters are quite happy to do strategic voting and many if Starmers policies are barely any different to theirs. Chinese Gordon posted:
A centrist labour is hugely strengthened by FPTP. They can target the middle and then (They think) also take the left vote because people will just vote against the Tories. OwlFancier posted:From reading the Ireland thread the republic doesn't seem to be doing very well with their voting system, which I don't understand exactly how it works because I don't understand how any of the voting systems other than FPTP work, but they seem to be stuck with two flavours of tory and sinn fein. They have what seems like a proper socialist party which I think is a coalition of a bunch of left tendencies, but it doesn't win many votes. Having 2 flavours of Tory plus Sinn Fein is better than the 3 Tory parties we have

Whenever anybody like that uses those phrases - "the free market", "the economy", etc - they don't actually understand what those words mean, because those words are just a mask over Capital, the abstract entity, but the true free market believer cannot for even one moment allow themselves to consciously acknowledge what lies behind the mask. They're morons who don't understand the system they worship.

That is a lot of time in computer terms. I wouldn't necessarily buy Japanese business software regardless given how cumbersome it has reputation for being, but I don't think the Horizon debacle has much bearing on any of it.
