Extremely looking forward to the kind of game where everyone is busy doing "play matches with a hero that you're bad at" weeklies and the quality of the core gameplay plummets through the loving floor.

The game looks really good! Kiriko seems like a more powerful Zen with better survivability. The pros will own with her while the scrubs will struggle to get kills.

Once the battlepass ends and they can't profit of FOMO, I'm guessing that they'll nerf either the range or the cooldown of her teleport.

The F2P unlock system looks like every detail from the initial cocktail napkin pitch was taken as sacred gospel when it was meant to be iterated out. Junkrat, one of the most braindead simple classes to play, is less of a priority to get into the hands of new players than Ana and Widowmaker. https://www.pcgamer.com/i-played-overwatch-2-on-a-new-account-and-the-hero-grind-sucks/ quote:You start with a handful of heroes in each of Overwatch's three roles: four tanks, six damage, and three support. ... if you want to try anyone else from the original cast, you need to start queuing up for games. One game will clear Genji for play, two for D.Va, three for Cassidy, four for Ana, and so on, all the way up to 150 games for Echo.

I feel so bad for any brand new playrs. What absolute garbage. I wouldn't be so against this system if it let you pick which hero you want to unlock, but being forced into characters like Soldier or Widowmaker first is just awful. People defending this change by saying it was too many heroes and thus overwhelming are insane to me. This system is just worse

You start with Soldier, Reaper, Torb, Pharah, Widow, and Tracer which is a good mix of playstyles then unlock a ninja soon after and continue unlocking new characters every few games. It seems like there's enough here for a new player to sink their teeth into without spending two hours reading 32 character descriptions and ability lists with zero context.

Don't unlock Genji after literally one game? They can say that it's about onboarding, they can even mean it, but someone made poor choices in what unlocks where. It also doesn't even address that idea that you should probably unlock in distinct tracks by role? I don't give a poo poo about these one thousand DPS characters if I'm play tank, I'm thinking about all these other tanks I could try. In industry news, the Multi Versus devs DOUBLED the unlock grind because it was "too fast". It was not too fast, they want money

Haha, wait what? They are dumping old stuff into the battlepass? Or is this a placeholder, a week before launch? Oh wait, it's an epic emote now, not a rare victory pose. Ah nevermind, I guess that's ok and not lazy then. Looking forward to seeing more re-used, repurposed assets. Just logged out of OW1 for the last time. Not gonna lie, it stings a little. mcbexx fucked around with this message at 16:21 on Sep 30, 2022 |

I agree a way to target heroes would be nice though but in the end around 100 quick play games to unlock 32 characters is way better than any other game on the market and only feels bad in comparison to OW1. New players will not have that experience to compare against.

New players will not have that experience to compare against. If my friends were into Overwatch 2 I simply would not have bothered playing because I'd have to play characters that didn't look interesting to me. Incidentally my friends seem to have lost all interest in Overwatch 2 after learning about the obnoxious monetization so I'll probably never play it and I'm just lurking in this thread to watch the trainwreck, but I did want to offer that perspective as a less hardcore player.

I appreciate your perspective. I know a friend of mine who tried to play Overwatch 4 years in bounced off hard. I bought him a copy and he just got frustrating with the amount of stuff being thrown at him. Would the new system have helped him ease into it and avoid hardcore choice paralysis? Maybe, maybe not. But Blizzard says they have some data behind what they're doing. Ultimately more people who get hooked on the game are more people playing and potentially buying the skins and crap so they have a vested interested in making that new player experience as good as possible and this is what they picked. In the end 100 quickplay games is about right. If the matchmaker works then you'll be unlocking the last of the heroes right as you unlock competitive mode. for apex caustic and mirage were locked on launch, the other heroes were all free. if people aren't playing overwatch just because they see a random character and go "that looks cool" that is a different and even worse failure on Blizzard's part anyways I think it's very funny they went to such lengths to try to preserve their role trinity shooter where everyone has a unique gun then the characters you get at the start are "most straightforward tank, most straightforward healer, basically every DPS character with a normal FPS weapon." what a boring introduction to the game! e: also I never played when she was implemented but putting echo last when by all accounts she was frustratingly balanced when added is very funny too. Also it seems so obvious that they could easily have just been like "get a free hero token after 1/2/5...150" matches that I really do wonder how they arrived at the order and what it's supposed to do for them Valentin fucked around with this message at 21:54 on Sep 30, 2022 |
