man, in 1998 if you told me the most relevant and successful metal band from that time would be slipknot i would have loving laughed at you. I'm hardly a big fan these days, but they have managed to stay relevant and made way more interesting music than i ever expected. That makes my 14 year old self happy lol

I get the reasons behind it, but it's still kinda funny to me that Gregor dissolved Vallenfyre because he had done all he wanted to do with that band, and then went and formed a new band that sounds pretty much exactly the same.

I ain't complaining though, because Vallenfyre/Strigoi loving owns.

I'm done with them for a variety of reasons. But Satanica through The Satanist is a crazy good streak of albums. (Except for Evangelion. That one sucked mostly.)

I haven't been that keen on the new stuff but yeah, I love Demigod and The Apostasy. For me it's kind of a bell curve of releases with those two in the middle and I don't care that much about the old black metal sound or new "Nergal got a new hat and flew up his own rear end" stuff.

Like I said earlier, they have way more interesting music than I think anyone, even fans, expected in the late 90s. Not even a big fan here despite my mainstream tastes, beyond loving them when i was a teenager.

The new Fallujah record, "Empyrean", is a welcome step back in the right direction. I loved "The Flesh Prevails" but they lost the plot after that one to put out two real stinkers. This is tickling all the right technical metal bits for me.

I mean, it wasn't a shark-themed band, I think. They just had a song about a shark.

edit: And it's not Surfers Paradise by Stillbirth, which is a shame because I'm getting big Stillbirth vibes in my memory.

Hello, it's me the resident Slipknot super fan here; I am not really liking the new album overall. :( Some of the experimental stuff they are doing here is really cool, but the execution is just not good, and the album overall feels very low energy and not very creative compared to their previous works. It seems like the band is running out of steam as time goes on, and I really started to feel that was the case when We Are Not Your Kind came out.

Yeah, I kinda agree mostly. It's a little limp when you compare it to even the previous albums - not necessarily in terms of heaviness, but in creativity. The riffs, are just kinda there, and if you told me there was just one guitarist in the band I would have believed you. The songs themselves are good, if they came from another band. I saw an interview somewhere, where Jim said that the album was somewhat rushed, they didn't do much preproduction, and that he also thinks he could have done better. This is their last contracted album, so they are now finally independent. Maybe that will inspire them to really go for it the next time round.

Yeah, that Jim Root interview really blew up this weekend and has been making its rounds in metal / slipknot circles. Now that they are independent, and have crazy amounts of money, they can hopefully make the kind of album they really want assuming they don't get torn apart by Cory Taylor drama.

I think Demigod, The Apostatsy, and Evangelion are probably the best Behemoth releases. I haven't really liked what I've heard after Evangelion. Just something about the songwriting doesn't feel very interesting compared to their past output.
