Speaking of Shipbreaker, the soundtrack just hit Spotify, so if you’d like some southern gothic to chill to, it’s out there.

Lol I collected a few of those freebie star citizen ships that were included with intel optane drives because my work bought a few, and never ended up using them. That whole thing is beyond a software slip and into the “outright grift” phase at this point :haw:

I really enjoy CP2077 on PC now that it has had a few patches. Shame about the initial release but it got very good eventually. Not as good as the initial trailers led some to believe but imagine believing everything you see in a game trailer is going to come to be, lol

There is a dope interview with the designer of the first game talking about all the neat little tricks they had to pull off to make Dead Space work. It really is an interesting development and you can tell this guy really wanted to make his dream a reality. I think it was from Ars Technica.

Edit: Found it here is him talking about the tentacle scene.

worst open world conversion ever. the whole reason that game was good was because it had linear levels which could be carefully made, this is mirrors edge, not crackdown!!

I've played 1 and 2 multiple times, but I never had any interest in the direction they went with for 3. I'm actually pumped for Callisto Protocol and its great that we're less than two months away.

Bad company 1 had the best rocket launcher ever. All weapons had some kind of bullet drop except this launcher and it was laser precise. Gold rush was the game mode and there were multiple places you could snipe the boxes from across the map with rockets, and the defenders had zero way to counter it. They could kill you, but it’s just a class load out. You could get right back to it.

yeah if you sign into the main game pass account on the Xbox, then your wife makes a separate account, her account will have access to game pass and you can play games together. this works for all games except annoying ones like the EA and Ubisoft games where you have to tie your EA/Ubi account to the microsoft account

This is an insanely good deal.

I've done multiplayer of two games via game pass on two xboxes, it's certainly possible on 2 PCs.

Catalyst lost a lot of what I liked in the first Mirror's Edge. It focuses on combat which I didn't care about at all, I hated almost all of the scripted encounters, especially since they don't let me "skip" them with guns any longer. The first game's story was a bit bland but it left some blanks to fill in by the player that made it more interesting and the world more believeable. Catalyst's story is more elaborate but also incoherent and dumb. It's a gritty reboot of the first game's story, bonus points for having some characterization stuck somewhere in a lovely prequel comic.

The game is very pretty but the open world is lifeless and disjointed - now you can run across connected roofs and enter some top floors of buildings for a bit, but there's no life up there, all the people you see are far away or behind thick glass walls doing nothing, and the accessible roof bars and open offices in some areas are completely empty. In Catalyst you're not really interacting with that open world beyond what the linear levels of the first game already allowed except for a bit of open world busywork like picking up audiologs, opening computer panels for upgrade currencies and doing timed runs for "side missions". In a way, it makes the game feel smaller than the fully linear levels connected by cutscenes (and the only good sewer level in gaming :v:).

Despite the open world, the game is fairly restricting and you keep running the same handful of specific routes for each direction, despite the (very light) metroidvania approach of unlocking new traversal tools and -paths in the story and through upgrades. Almost all of the actually memorable running sets are one-time story deals so what you actually do is having to do the blandest runs over and over again to get anywhere for the story or the open world checklist stuff.

So yeah, it wasn't very good and probably pissed off about as many superfans of the first game as it attracted new people, ie. it sold really badly and EA instantly forgot about it again (there's zero DLC for it except for some pointless preorder cosmetics). Less than a year later they released the stellar Mass Effect Andromeda and after that EA probably said gently caress it, return to lootbox casino sports games and Battlefield, at least those sell.

EA were right tbh. None of the studios they have can make a game worth poo poo anymore so if they’re going to make stinkers, at least dump out the stuff that suckers buy like the BF games.

Wrong, the open world is great because the game's movement system is fun and its good to have lots of big open maps where you can just have fun running and jumping around, or maybe do some little side missions or challenges. That's what makes it replayable. The original game you only had a few missions to play over and over or maybe do the time trial things or whatever.

And besides, most of the story missions are set in unique linear maps just like the first game, so what are you complaining about? It's got both!
