this poo poo drives me into a blind rage, especially considering how many type 2 patients progress to type 1. but at least if they can't afford private insurance their loving insulin costs will be capped, cool. god forbid the US do anything to address these root causes, though, and we're only going to see preventable conditions become more prevalent in communities experiencing health care, nutrition and economic inequalities due to the impact of climate change. gonna be great.

Things as basic as brain development have been definitively linked to childhood poverty and malnutrition. Policy makers are well aware, it's not even a particularly expensive problem for a developed economy. People don't care

A coworker shared candy they brought back from Peru, it was interesting how on the packaging in large prominent text it said stuff like this is a high sugar item, high in saturated fats, & avoid eating in excess. Definitely a good idea but imagine how scorched earth Coca-Cola would get if there was a whiff of not allowing them to market to kids or to add a label about it being junk food. When Chile began requiring warning labels about high sugar content sales tanked https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/11/...&smid=share-url

We've seen this fight for, yikes, decades at this point. The current nutritional panels on food items have been knee-capped from the word 'go' by enough lobbyist dollars to choke a whale. They treat it as an existential crisis and will let the world burn and die before letting effective labeling exist. Look at what it took to get nicotine and cancer labels on cigarettes. Now try to convince society that sugar needs to be viewed similarly.

I'm going to go the route of suggesting that if your diet is trash, like mine, and you're not type 2 but at risk for it, maybe consume cannabis. That doesn't neccessarily mean smoke weed, there's cannabinoids in CBD products and hemp seed oil. And I'm going to link a fox news article on why (because of fox wrote about it, someone far more credible did too): https://www.foxnews.com/health/cannabis-use-associated-with-lower-blood-sugar quote:A new study published in the American Journal of Medicine has revealed a potential benefit from the use of cannabis. The article, entitled “The Impact of Marijuana Use on Glucose, Insulin, and Insulin Resistance among U.S. Adults,” investigated the blood sugar-related effects of cannabis use among participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2005 to 2010. 7 year old article. I'm the only cannabis consumer in my family and the only one without diabetes. Two type 1s, two type 2s, and me. My blood sugar hangs out around 100, I weigh about 210lbs, need a belt in 36 waist and eat like a trash panda.

America has the problem where 'diet' sugar-free items are seen as healthy alternatives, instead of slow poisons. They are awful.
