They get millions to tens of millions of views, and all have those brightly colored thumbnails. They reuse the same thumbnails even for different videos. We are attracted to bright colors as babies and toddlers, and that stays with us, as it seems to work very well. That's why pretty much all YouTube thumbnails look the way they do.
