We had a discussion a few weeks back in the retro general about just acknowledging “I’m never going to play this loving game” and selling it or deleting it or whatever and just playing what you actually like. I started doing this and selling off my retro stuff and I have been enjoying games so much more when I just sit down and focus on one and forget about the hording aspect or worrying about “I gotta play this it was well received!”

Now with less breakage.

Day to day, what I use is the Recent Games shelf in Steam, it's only really a problem if I want to find something new. :)

This may make a lot of sense, though.

I keep my Steam library mostly on the "Only show installed games" and "Sort by last played" mode. And I only have a handful of games installed at any given time. Works for me. I have similar problems if I see a huge list of games.

I rightclick on the system tray icon and if it isn't in that last of 5 games I've played, it might as well not exist.

What do you want to do? Who do you want to be?
One of the things I like about GOG is you can bypass galaxy and just install a game or two and play it until it's done with rather than be confronted with Yet Another List To Scroll Through that does something to my burnt out and possibly undiagnosed ADD brain which leaves me spending more time trying to choose and then just moving on to something else rather than just watching/reading/playing.

I found this while trying to see if mp3 players built into the cassette were actually a thing like I vaguely remember, it's pretty nifty even if it's obsolete at release.

Not sure off the top of my head, it's not much. Also takes a typical 1.44mb floppy for storage, BUT uses it's own proprietary formatting and OS. Loosely DOS based, but not really compatible. There's one very dead linux program that can read the disks, I think.

Reason I have it apart is it's not feeding paper correctly, which is driving me insane. These pics were from 6pm, and I still missed something somehow!

While nowhere that sophisticated, I typed half my high school papers on a Smith Corona that had one line of memory. You could edit the single line before printing it. I think there was a built-in spell checker and it also beeped at the end of a line.

Got a couple of those as well, thermals. Excellent since they are battery operated and don't need ink, just thermal paper. Gotta repair the belt on my favorite one, though.

That's actually got a decent amount of memory, like 16-24kb or so, enough to store up to 20 pages before printing. But it's only got a two line display.

A lot of these devices tend to use fairly generic ink or ribbons that are either somewhat standard in their niche, or are at least shared with several other models. You can still buy printer ribbons for dot matrix printers from the 70s, because the same ribbon was used on dozen of models and it's still viable to keep making them. Same for manual typewriter ribbons.

I don't remember the model, but I typed a few school assignments on it. I remember it had a single row LCD display and you could only input and edit one row at a time.

Here's one on Etsy that feels familiar. I'm almost positive it had the word eraser feature.

I had a word processor in early high school like this that I would write 10-15 page stories on. Printing them was awesome because it would be a rapid fire clickety-clack typewriter print

I had a thing in the mid 2000s, it was a normal landline-looking phone handset that plugged into your cell phone. So you could walk down the street with your little 2005 flip phone in your pocket, this thing plugged into it, talking on it like you were a crazy person. It was actually way more comfortable for long conversations than cell phones of the time.
