An article on Praydog’s Universal Unreal Engine VR Injector Mod.
Which should allow any Unreal game to be VR.

"The VR Injector is added to a game by just dropping in a few files in the game directory. You then just need to launch the game and it adds back all of the engine’s native VR code and launches the game in VR."

"Normally, when you activate basic VR on a flat Unreal Engine game with the VR plugins in it (if it was built with them still in), a lot is broken with the experience.

Praydog’s mod automatically works through all of these common issues and correctly fixes them directly in the game engine for VR since they’re all using universal functions. This makes it not only a great place for a modder to start working on a full mod with motion controls, etc. but it makes most Unreal Engine games quite fantastic to play in VR out of the box!"

That’s really cool! I assume that it probably does not work for games older than UE4, though. I want to play Unreal Tournament ‘99 in VR…

The issue with Grapple Tournament, while it's well made, is that it's extremely small scale (3 v 3 only), so it loses some of the chaotic charm that Unreal Tournament had.

Yeah, this is one I would love to see happen.
This is the one time I wish I could arrange my games in Steam by game engine to see which games I have that could take advantage of it.

Its 6 player lobbies for a reason. Same reason our game is too. There are other modes tho, so its not teams. Got your FFA and what not.

Can't keep more than that filled in VR right now. Unless you somehow have a massive uptick on initial release and keep the momentum going, you end up with dead lobbies. Theres a handful of games that suffered this fate. And its a drop in and out casual arena shooter. Sucks trying to "fill" a 8-10 player lobby to have some shooty bangs with friends.

Plus its already really hard to get people into movement shooters in VR. Normal people. General consumer people.

Yeah i'd be down for massive chaos lobbies too but theres a lot of factors that go into it.

Like, our game for example, its a limitation of how our lobbies were initially designed. We can "just" get 1 extra slot connected for a spectator client then all bets are off. And if GT did similar with server stuff, its probably a similar limitation.

Then that whole, keeping bigger lobbies filled is really tough. Stand out is a great example of a game that did really well with numbers until the "next thing" came out. Regularly had 30ish real players in a match for quite a while. Then bam poof zap, 2-5 max. Then its all bots. Which isn't fun. Then it all adds to budget. Ugh.

I don't disagree, it'd be dope to have more slots, but I get why its not.

FWIW I think a big part of why the Gorilla Tag lobbies work so well is the game is so easily drop in/drop out, you never need to wait any time at all to find a match (unless you're trying to join a fully empty map/gamemode or are on the population threshold where there's not enough for another room). If you join a game in progress, you're just on the tagged team and can immediately start chasing people.

I know that's not a common thing to be able to design for in a lot of games, but man does it help to be able to grab any new people who just launched the game and make sure there's something for anyone who's searching to find and join. Needing to wait for discrete thresholds of people to start a match really makes it difficult for things to take off enough to be self-sustaining.

1000% this.

All MP games need to lean into being able to drop into an ongoing match. Ya, ok it sucks not "Winning" but like, if the games fun the lobby would keep going.

I really hope we can get there with it. (drop in/out)

Absolutely, yes. It's incredible watching their marketing spin bullshit about how great it will be on their platform with shopping and socialising, etc, and all you really need to do to pop that bubble is point out VKET events and DJ nights in VRChat. Because those are literally what they're talking about.

All its missing is a baseline of optimization, a lighting system that doesn't make everyone and everything look full-bright at all times, and a way to load other games with a party system. Get those three things and I'd say you got a metaverse there.

I still can’t form an opinion on whether VRChat is “good” or not, but it’s certainly unique and I’m happy it exists.

Anybody unload a Quest 1 recently? If I pick up a Pro tomorrow I might as well sell mine and keep the 2 around for backup but the idea of loving around on eBay to make 50 bucks sounds like a tremendous waste of my time.

I feel like I play VR Chat wrong, because I never talk to anyone. I just like seeing what new space someone has modeled, like the entire BotW Great Plateau from last year. I pop in every few months, ogle, and leave.

Edit: Does anyone have experience with cracked rings on the Quest (1) controllers? I dropped my left one, and the outer part has cracked through in one place, and is starting to separate from the inner ring. It still completely works fine, although I'm gonna tape it so it doesn't continue to break.

cheap webcam should show you the IR thingy things, then use something like sugru to patch it back together.Just don't cover the sensors. My one set of index controllers is held together with the poo poo. I mean you could use anything but that stuff works really well for "patchwork plastic".

The goon VR discord gave me some advice on this: Just insta block any screaming children, racists/creeps or confused 6 year olds babbling about their toothbrush for multiple minutes.
I've been meaning to get back into VR after quitting for 8 months to a year.

Some of the most fun I had was at some semi private underground "live DJ" raves that were playing their own music during the pandemic in VRChat.
