Is that how you get the gyro working on Wii U emulation? I wish I had known this before I finished Wind Waker HD yesterday.

I doubt I'd use Gyro that much, but the PS5 Dual Sense's trackpad is really useful if you ever need to use a mouse in a pinch. Do any games fully support dual sense haptics like on the PS5?

Big ups to the gyro. I think the gyro in the Steam Controller was a game changer.

I swear, with the steam controller, the gyro as a supplement to FPS aiming with the right pad is really cool. The fine adjustments you can make quickly by slightly moving the controller make it easy to be more accurate than twin stick alone with just a little practice. Honestly, I'm surprised how intuitive it was once I started using it. (for the SC you just wanted to set it so that the gyro only worked if you had a thumb resting on the right pad. I'm hoping I can do the same with the right stick on the SD.)

I used the gyro in mouse-games too, it was surprisingly easier to control the mouse cursor with controller gyro to the point where it was my main input when I played games like Stellaris or Cities Skylines on the TV in the living room with a steam controller, even though I still had mouse cursor movement on the right swipe pad.

the thumbsticks, as well as the touchpads, are capacitive and can enable gyro on touch

I wish there was a list of decent running PS3 games on this thing. So far my experience:

Skate 3 - runs pretty well. Usually 60 fps.
Nhl 15 - boots but runs at 5fps
Ncaa 13 - doesn't run
3d dot heroes - runs and plays but crashes frequently

RPCS3 is still a relatively early emulator for the system. There's a lot of big games it doesn't run yet. Wipeout HD Fury is one I still need to try since I love it and it's supposedly one of the more demanding PS3 games to emulate in the tradition of F-Zero GX being the game to bring Dolphin to its knees.

is there a setting i can enable that lets me mouse-click using the shoulder buttons instead of pressing down on the touchpad in desktop mode? i looked around a bit and didnt see anything but it feels so incredibly weird to "click" on the pad that surely someone thought to include that option and i'm just not seeing it.

You can edit the desktop controller config in the steam settings. I did exactly what youre looking for (also made the left track pad a scroll wheel among other things).

Woop, finally got some emulation up and running on the deck.

It's a silly thing but I'd always considered steam like my digital backup of old console games as they eventually got released on PC. So with the deck having emulations for almost every console, it feels like I can plug the gaps and have my entire collection on here.

I've had so many N64, Gamecube or ps2 games just sitting under my bed without the means to play them due to my TVs being too modern or the controllers crapping out or some poo poo.

I'm guessing PS2 emulation (as well as others) is a bit of a crap shoot right? Silent Hill 2 seemed to run perfectly, while SSX had this crazy 15fps like slowmo thing randomly kicking in.

Also, maybe I'm in the minority but I do wish there was a little notch in the top of the case to let me plug in the charger while storing the deck in it (like to charge overnight). Though maybe that's a safety thing incase it busts into flames?

Yeah, it's a heat thing, they don't want people charging it while it's sealed in the case. It doesn't take all that long to charge up anyway.

You can also press I think the steam key + trigger to left click. Way easier than the track pad

I tried Tales of Graces F, a game which I've never finished (got pretty far though!) and it plays wonderfully on the Deck. Haven't tried Xillia yet because I ran out of space lol

The plan is to do Tales of Graces F, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2, Eternal Sonata (which someone said it is barely playable but seemed fine the other day?) and Drakengard 3

I'm sure the TDW isn't great but I'll likely be plugged in for most of it.

It seems to be a crapshoot depending on the game, I played all of Shadow of the Colossus on Deck without much issue and near, if not better, performance than the PS2. It all depends on the game and some are just a bear to run or are just broken. I usually just YouTube to see if people can get a certain game emulated with good performance and go from there.

I'm working on getting Cemu working in Emulation Station and I'm a little baffled, what file format do you need the games to be in? I have some games that were a bunch of .app and other files and decrypted them, now I have some subfolders, and buried in there somewhere is an .rpx file, do I have what I need? And do I just need to put those folders with the game names into the rom folder for wiiu in the ES file structure? I'm finding a ton of conflicting info online but I think a lot of it is geared towards the PC version of Cemu and talks about "installing" the raw files.

Yes, you can just stick the entire directory with the decrypted files into the ROMs/Wii U/ROMs directory and Cemu will recognize them as games and populate them into the list when you boot it up.

Best part is, Cemu allows you to create a second window for the Gamepad screen, so if you play in desktop mode with a monitor connected you can play it just like an actual Wii U. The Deck is probably the best way to emulate Wii U.

Fantastic, thank you. Now it's a race between me getting Winpinator working again or my dock arriving first so I can get the files on the Deck and see if they work, lol.

The easiest way I've found is to open whichever emulator program you want to mess with the hot keys on, then see what the save/load save state hotkeys are, and then go to the custom controls on the steam menu for the emulator and add those to whatever button you want. I use the left/right paddles for mine. So for example, one of my emulators has CTRL+K and CRTL+L so I set the top right and left paddles as CTRL, and one of the bottom ones as K and the other bottom one as L. That way I can just hit both paddles on either side to either save or load.

I can't get this to work. I go into Dolphin, Hot Keys, Save and Load State. Then I assigned Save State to '1' and Load State State to '2'.

Then I got into the Steamdeck controller config and assign one rear button to 1 and another to 2. They don't do anything in game though. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Dolphin’s been a bit buggy with control profiles for me. Try swapping to a community layout first and seeing if that works and then assigning 1/2 using that layout.

MGS2/3 are some of the toughest PS2 games to emulate. As well as the demanding graphics they use the PS2's pressure sensitive face buttons for shooting and CQC. Fortunately you have a couple of other options.

There's a mod for the ancient PC release of MGS2 called V's Fix that makes it work on modern hardware, but I don't know how well that runs on Deck.

MGS2/3/ Peace Walker got released as an HD Collection on PS3 / 360, with the 360 version having workarounds for the lack of pressure sensitive buttons. Again, I don't know how well this emulated version runs on Deck but that might be a better option.

When I last checked, MGS4 required a specialised fork of RPCS3 to run at all and you needed a monster PC for it to run decently, so this might be what stops you from doing a full playthrough.

What format are the ROMs in? I've been using .bin/.cue format because some of the emulators I tried had problems with the .iso format. The problem with this in emulation station/Steam ROM Manager is that in addition to having an entry for each disc of the multi-disc PlayStation games, there's an entry for both the .bin file and the .cue file, so I've been considering switching over to .chd for disc-based consoles, it's also smaller than .iso/.bin.
