They're odd, maybe bugged? I have 2 of them with +shield that seem to get adjacency with my shields, but the one without doesn't and none of them have adjacency with life support or mobility despite having those bonuses as well.

they're weird. the weapon mods only apply to the boltcaster, and exosuit mods only have synergy with shield mods.

game is good. new update is good. working my way through the galaxies on permadeath by core jumping a hauler with 4 working mods and no working exosuit mods except basic hazard protection and jetpack, currently at #27 (Eajerandal).

New experimental patch dropped with some interesting bits

quote:

A new difficulty setting has been added which allows players to lock themselves out of any further difficulty settings changes. Once enabled, this action is permanent.

The strength of starship specialisation bonuses have been increased, so that higher-grade ships receive greater inherent bonuses to their stats. This scales steeply with both class and ship specialisation, so that eg the Explorer class ships will have significantly further warp ranges.

As well as damage, shield and warp bonuses, starships now also have an inherent agility-based stat, which benefits all maneuverability upgrades in the same way as the other specialisation stats affect their relevant upgrades.

Stat bonuses on procedural jetpack upgrades have been increased.

Stat bonuses on procedural hazard protection upgrades have been increased.

Stat bonuses on procedural pulse engine upgrades have been increased.

Stat bonuses on procedural hyperdrive upgrades have been increased.

You can get new multitools in different ways:

Purchased in each station
Purchased in planet outposts
Gifted from alien interaction (I think?)

In each case, you have the option to swap or add to your arsenal. If you add to your arsenal, you have to use the menu (same one that you take pictures with) to swap weapons

There are handguns, rifles (my favourite) and alien-looking blasters. Probably a few more too.

Also by defeating the 5th level of sentinels on a planet, then attacking the sentinel pillar gives you a free multitool.

I got an S-class exotic one that matches my ship that way.

Plus the royals seen in the picture above.

Additionally, handguns and rifles come in different forms. There's also a submachine-gun looking thing. Same with the alien blasters: They have a smaller, handgunish-looking thing.

My favorite are the experimentals: They look like you're carrying a huge space cannon around. Ideal if you want to try stuff like the neutron cannon. :v:

Additionally from memory: Normal rifles give a bonus to damage, handguns to mining, alien weapons give a bigger bonus to damage, experimentals give a bonus to scanning and royals are just good at everything.

on the subject of multi tools, i just found another royal multi tool like the one i have already but in a nicer colour. it's very cool that this update allows me to just move my stuff over to it once i've upgraded its' slots instead of having to hunt down new upgrades for it.

Speaking of Royal multitools, they still only come in C-rank, right?

Did they ever come up with a non terrible way to turn some of my basically infinite money into nanites to upgrade one?

They come in other ranks, it's just that since it's already not necessarily common to find them and you need to find a sentinel pillar to even check for one, it's nearly guaranteed easier to upgrade (or just go to nms coordinate exchange)

I don't think there's any good way to convert money to nanites outside of buying+scrapping ships and selling the modules

you can buy larval and hadal cores at pirate stations and refine them to 50 nanites each. small volume so it'll still take a while, though.

Ok, goons, I have a code red NMS emergency... My wife blue screened today while playing and when she went back in, her save said it was there but when she loaded it up, it just went to the start of the game. Everything is gone.

I need to fix this for her. She's been sick for like 3 days straight, feels like poo poo, and this is pretty much the only game she plays nowadays. I need to fix this for her.

I'm logged into steam as her, I've used the browser to check out the Steam cloud files, but it doesn't seem to be that cut and dry.

I'm at a loss and need any advice available.

It's probably going to be a bit trickier now that autosaves pop off whenever, but step absolute-bloody-0 in this situation would be to copy off and put somewhere safe whatever the save files that currently exist in the local flie location are.

Once you've done that, the first thing I'd try (assuming you saw "this game loaded as new and empty" and instantly slapped the shut down button and didn't hop in a ship to fly around and marvel at how empty it is) would be to try to load the not-autosave from the main menu and see if that kicks you back into an at least semi-reasonable state.

If that doesn't work, I'd recommend trying to get it into the no man's sky save editor from https://github.com/goatfungus/NMSSaveEditor and see what it shows-- given how close it's been to a major patch it's possible it might not recognize anything at all, but there's an option once a save is loaded to "see the entire save game's raw json" that should at least give an indication of how corrupted the save is or isn't.

If you're lucky then it's still mostly there and it's just like "bad json syntax made it fail to parse", but if you're not lucky and/or have done a lot of stuff in the "logged in empty" state it's probably already been overwritten. If you look at the local files and they're all looking extremely small then I don't know there's much that can be done; if you can find files that are still full and "just" a bit corrupt then you might get lucky. If the latter is the case but you can't get them running, feel free to toss them up online somewhere and I can see what I can do too, but no promises since my only claim to fame would be "looks at big piles of json as a day job and hasn't had their eyes bleed out yet".

I appreciate all of this. I'm not getting anywhere yet. I have quite literally downloaded every. single. file from the Steam cloud database via a browser, and that did nothing. It's like the account file won't recognize all of the DDS files or something. I see names of bases and systems in there, and when I try and pull up the save, after everything, I just get nothing.

Edit: can anyone recommend a good batch file manager where I can rename, specially remove specific characters, from a ton of files?

Edit 2: ok, I've somehow managed to get the file name and number of hours played to show up, but I'm still at a new area, with none her stuff actually there. drat, I wish that save editor was 4.0 compatible.
