Yeah I feel like if your needs are specialised enough that Emudeck wouldn't meet them, you'd know. I've tinkered with emulation for years and it's amazing how much of the fiddly setup stuff can be automated when you have a standardised piece of hardware.

So I'm trying something really loving stupid and use my Flight Sim stuff Yoke/Throttle/Pedals in MSFS2020, and it works. Kinda. Interestingly enough they actually show up in Desktop Mode properly named and all that, but in Gaming Mode in MSFS2020 two of the devices (Throttle/Pedals) just show up as generic Xbox controllers rather than what they actually are, MSFS2020 sets up all the controls when it detects the hardware. Does anyone know anything I could possibly try to see if the game will recognize them so I don't have to set up the controls? I tried to see if I could change USB ports, unplug and replug.

I'm sure it has to do with Proton and all that, and technically I can just rebind it all but it would save me a lot of time if I didn't have to.

I'm going to lol if I can flight sim with the Deck.

I'm sure there were people up thread saying LotR Shadow of War plays well on deck. Any tips? I got it free on Prime through GoG. Have installed it via Heroic but it doesn't launch. Have tried various versions of proton and somethign on Reddit around adding a DLL in via winetricks without joy.

It's strange because it happens to only 2 of the three devices, so I'm thinking maybe it's because they're older or something that the game just sees them as Xbox Controllers. I have no way to test it though. Gonna keep messing with it.

My steam deck eventually turned up, so that was nice.

Enjoying actually getting into Dark Souls 3, absolutely thrilled that I can easily get 60fps solid in street fighter v with >3hr battery, and enjoying Foretales despite it being purely mouse based.

Valve's updated and added some of the better graphical effects they made for Episode 2. Namely some better shaders, new models for the Vorts and HDR (not modern HDR that requires an HDR capable display, but Valve's old...'fake'(?) HDR they added to Source for the Episodes).

There's a bit there that's probably pushed the minimum requirements up, but nothing major, probably.

Yeah I can see that having played Portal, which also has all the Steam Deck controller icons in. Including the back buttons for some stuff. The menus also are different on Deck to on desktop.

Same! We only had the one gaming laptop, but now my wife and I can finally play together.

Also , playing through HL2 on the Deck while watching King of The Hill is :discourse: I'm sure you've all watched something while playing something else, and those memories get tied together, probably for years if not forever.

Even back when I was a kid, I'd rent an NES game for the weekend, but I'd also want to watch TGIF. I have memories of playing GI Joe and watching Growing Pains, switching back and forth. One reminds me of the other, and I'm good with that.

Now, the helicopter fight at the end of Water Hazard will always remind me of everyone in Arlen thinking Hank buys a ton of porn.

Does anyone know why Inscryption refuses to sync to the steam cloud? It says that the Steam Cloud is up to date but when I open the game on my PC it's an old save and different than the one on my deck. If I launch the game on my PC then the deck will say that the steam cloud is out of date. It's just this game and I don't have a clue why it's doing that.

I have the same issue, and the only thing I can think of is that the dev hosed up cloud sync integration between the different versions, i.e. that saves from your Windows desktop are not compatible (or at least properly synced) with the native Linux version that the Deck runs. If I didn't have a bajillion other games to play, I'd look into how to force the Deck to install the Windows version to see if there's any merit to my guess.

Just enable the "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and set it to the latest stable Proton version. It will download the Windows version automatically after that.

Is Emudeck the best solution for that sort of thing or is it better to just do a bunch of things individually?
EmuDeck is certainly the fastest way to get to a useable emulator setup, particularly if you don't want to think about it. I don't use it myself though.

For one I don't want Steam ROM Manager or my home screen littered with ROM icons. I also don't like RetroArch.

Beyond that, I don't really need "every emulator ever" as I really just use three: Dolphin, PrimeHack (which is basically Dolphin), and Mednaffe/Mednafen. In which case, installing those from flatpaks and configuring them manually is no worse than when I do it on my Linux desktop.

Control setup isn't that bad since emulators support gamepads natively anyways--you just have to go through the "press button" walkthrough. Dolphin is the exception as getting good controls figured out is a per-game thing and I'm not sure how much EmuDeck helps with that. Like the controls I configured for New Super Mario Bros. Wii are very different from Metroid: Other M.

Hey folks total newb here. I got Valve Steam dock and wanted to use it to hook up the Steam deck to my TV and then use a keyboard and mouse. Is that possible and does anyone know of a good video to explain exactly how to do it? You folks seem very savvy but unfortunately I’m nowhere near your expertise so any help would be much appreciated.

From my experience it's just plug and play. The dock has a USB-C cord, which you connect to the Deck, and you use an HDMI cable to connect the dock to the TV. It should automatically bring the screen up on the TV when you connect the deck to the dock. As far as the keyboard and mouse, I plugged them in via USB and they worked automatically.

So like the Switch? But I would need a wireless keyboard and mouse? I feel so stupid. I’ll be sitting about seven feet away from the TV

Yeah, you don't have to worry about going through a process to set up your Deck to work with a keyboard and mouse, you can just plug them into the USB ports on the dock (or pair them to the Deck if you have a Bluetooth KB+M) and just start using them right away. I have a cheapo little USB hub that I'm using in place of the official dock, but I can't imagine that Valve would make it somehow more complicated with the real deal.

EDIT: The Deck has its USB C port at the top, unlike the Switch, so the official Valve dock has this little USB C cord that runs from the dock to the port on the Deck, that part's different, but the thing is basically the same otherwise. And yeah, if the Deck is going to be in a high-traffic area like the living room you might want to consider Bluetooth for your KB+M.

That would depend on the length of your HDMI cable going to the TV. I've got a pretty long one, so I can get away with having the dock closer to me than the TV, but if you have the dock near your tv, you'd need a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Also if you want the deck to charge while docked, remember to connect the power cable to the USB-C port of the dock.

The update tool doesn't detect the SD card I have everything installed on, so yeah I'm probably going to finish Twilight Princess and then do a full clean install of Emudeck with my bigger 512gb card with how big this update seems. Cloud saves alone is a huge deal for me.

E: Also that guide is how I learned Cemu graphics mods have options to make games render at 16:10 as well as lock to 40fps and change the button icons to match the Deck.

My experience with Linux in both limited and a decade+ out of date so apologies if this is a stupid question.

Has anyone had luck running tes3cmd (Morrowind plugin cleaning tool) on the deck? I'm working through an openmw mod list and have been unable to get it to work. I've set a sudo password and have run the recommended code

code:

cpan install Config::IniFiles

But running tes3cmd afterwards still spits an error about installing Config::IniFiles, even though it seems like it installed just fine.

I'm fine the meantime since I still have access to my windows machine to run it, but curious if there's some quirk of how the deck runs that stops you from loving around and finding out in the Konsole.

I feel like I'm going crazy, having some weird discrepancies in Game Mode:

If I use L1/R1 to go all the way to "Non-Steam" , hit Down on D-Pad, and then A into a game, and B to back out of the game, my cursor is now on the L1/R1 selection? (Which if I hit Right on D-Pad will take me to "Great on Deck" which is also weird since I can use R1 to cycle back, but I digress...)
Which is kind of weird cuz I would expect it to remain on the game I had selected into.

...Cuz that's how it works in "All Games" and "Installed". I can back out from the selected game and the selection is still on that same game.

Also strangely, if I am in that L1/R1 selection and D-Pad around, if I hit Down on D-Pad, it'll select the game directly under the section (All Games, Installed, etc) instead of picking the first game in that section (or I think it's supposed to go back to the last game you had selected? I'm not sure).

Anyone else having this issue?

It's an Android phone using the new Snapdragon X3 processor they co-developed with Qualcomm bundled with their Kishi controller. A lot of companies seem to be trying to get devices out for Xbox Cloud streaming as it becomes more known, Logitech are doing one too that also runs Android. The problem is they're way more than any sane person should pay for a streaming device, Logitech's is $300 and has a super old Snapdragon CPU so it would suck even for emulation. If Android gaming was less of a joke it might make more sense but Genshin Impact on Android still doesn't have controller support (something it's had on iOS for over a year now).
