Like a lot of other people, I've been using SD to make character art for an online tabletop roleplaying game. I'm particularly proud of this one because it took a fair number of img2img masking steps to get an orc with braids, full body armor, and robotic legs. Turns out most orc women that the AI is able to sample don't wear much in the way of armor and surprisingly enough the AI had no idea what to do with braids until I specified the hair. I could post steps / prompts if people are interested, mostly just excited to get character art that looks this good while being true to the character. edit: final prompt was "((Half-Orc)) woman with braided black hair, brass space marine armor, detailed, intricate, anna dittmann, rebecca guay, Edmund Leighton" but by that point the legs were no longer being edited. It's a big mess. Seems RunwayML also released a 1.5 model specifically finetuned for inpainting. HuggingFace already incorporated support for this inpainting model to their diffusers-library and deprecated the way it used to work.

I don't know how the legality would work in this case. Here's my understanding: - Stable Diffusion is open source. - StabilityAI has an updated model (1.5) that they've chosen not to release to the public (yet? ever?). This is their right -- I could spin off my own private repo of some random open source project from GitHub and never release it, even if I made something super awesome out of it. - RunwayML was given access to the 1.5 model to train it for inpainting, I guess? And then apparently decided to release it publicly without StabilityAI's permission. Thing is, since it's built on open source code (that was partially made by one of their own people), are they legally allowed to do this? IP rights are awful and I'm glad I don't have to deal with this stuff in my line of work. Isn't that the NovelAI guy? They're coming out of the woodwork today!

Art AIs are brand new and two of them have already been stolen and released to the public. Bravo! gently caress the gate keepers and their exclusive compute power. These AI researchers are so full of themselves "oh dear what if someone makes a naughty picture of Nancy Peloci or an anime boob. This technology must only be reserved for top capitalists!"

I'd be filling the internet with pictures of my billionaire rear end doing all kinds of nasty poo poo, just in case the real pics get leaked one day.

It's only a matter of time before someone sues an AI developer for something gross that gets generated with their tool. I'm 99.9% sure that these lawsuits will get thrown out, in the same way that you can't sue Adobe for people making gross poo poo in Photoshop. But still, you don't want to be on the receiving end of this, and by filtering out certain "harmful" content, you can much more easily claim in court that you did "due diligence" (ie. "slightly more than literally nothing"). I don't like it, but I get it. Anyway, here's another thing I made today that I really like. The last image I posted took three hours, over a dozen inpainting sessions, and 600+ iterations. This one took one minor prompt edit, four candidate outputs, one refinement with a higher step count, and a single inpainting session.

I know that dall-e intentionally blocks the names of any cities in countries involved in active wars, I'd guess their blocking of elon is something similar: he's blundering his way into being a high profile political figure and there's a lot of potential for misuse. gently caress elon though he's a dumb butt poo poo.
