Wow apparently Kill Team Shadowvaults is such a massive success in the UK GW cant fulfill all pre-orders from how sold out it is.

I would still very much reccomend nobody fall for FOMO until the rest of the gallowdark is announced and we get a clear sense if the terrain will change or not.

Is the terrain the big draw? The minis are gorgeous, but the Space Hulk terrain does not do it for me at all.

The terrain is a really good draw, because it allows a much tighter focus on close quarters, environmental hazards, customizable missions, etc. it removes some complications such as elevation. and the missions like breaching and reaching objectives is super fun from what I’ve been reading, most reviewers say that Gallowdark is kill team at its most focused and fun.

The problem is, the first two boxes are the exact same terrain, so if you have one it’s really hard to justify buying another set unless you actually plan on doing the actual 40k mega boarding missions.

To me, the only released Gallowdark faction I’m genuinely interested in is the imperial navy, but I’m waiting for the other sets to release to see if I should get them with the terrain or get them separately if a faction combo looks more interesting.

I wanted to get shadowvault but new underwolds box is really tempting to get back in and I have to pace myself. On the other hand I already have 3 kill teams and probably could just get the terrain and board second hand

My guess is, people are buying Shadowvault because of the Kasrkin. It takes a couple of months for the teams to get individual releases, and you can flip all the stuff you don't want.

I was gonna say, pretty sure it's this. Kasrkin have always been one of the primo appeal models so these new ones are likely to be getting snapped up.

I sold a squad of metal Kasrkin on eBay a couple of months ago for something like £70.

Just out of curiousity, are they or is there any indication they will be any good in 40k?

There have been no leaks from the upcoming guard codex related to them, but if the other kill teams are any indication, probably not.

I'm seeing the Red Harvest box for $130, and I love the look of both teams and the terrain. Is there any good reason not to get it now that there's the Ghur box? Both of that box's teams look cool but I'm not as into them as I am the spider boys and conans anonymous from Red Harvest, plus I am not really all that into the terrain as much.

I assume you mean you're not into the terrain of the ghur box as much as the Red harvest box?

If That's the case, then go for red harvest. You won't have the latest and greatest rule set, but you can still play the game, if you choose to do so. GW posted all the factions online in a PDF, so you'll have those. They also have a quick start rule set online as a PDF, so you'll be good there as well.

I picked up shadowvaults because the extra terrain will be useful in larger scale games too, like the upcoming 40k space hulk mode and, more importantly, necromunda. It's a little disappointing that it reuses spruea from ITD but it's not really a big deal for my intended use in the end.

Kill Team starter set, Gellepox and Rogue traders, along with the octarius and annual rulebooks is on the way from the USA! So excited!

I definitely think this will more than tide me over painting and playing wise until they announce what the next gallowdark set is. By then I’ll know for sure if I am in love with this game or not and just double team a couple sets if the terrain is different.

So if he takes three wounds, does he roll for each discrete point of damage ie 3 times?

Yes. You roll once for each individual point of damage. I played against this guy yesterday, and he rolled 20 of them at once. Sadly for him, he only made 3.

My wife found out about Warhammer Underworlds this weekend and pre-ordered the new editon. Are the old Underworld teams compatible with it? There's some older teams at my FLGS and GW that I like the minis for, and want a convenient excuse to pick them up.

My wife got a job in a k-8 school this year, and the school is trying to start up a games club. I keep trying to push her to run Warcry and Underworlds (and MtG Jumpstart) to get the kids hooked on tabletop games crack (can't buy drugs if you spend your money on cards/plastic!).

All the teams are competible. Also from what I've heard this box also contains two generic decks that can be used with any existing team

If you find some of the OLD teams, like from Shadespire and Beastgrave(?), I think GW have said their cards might not match up to the power levels of current teams. Aside from that, all teams are compatible with the current version, and you can use the generic rival decks to even the playing field between any underperforming teams. I haven't really seen any analysis of HOW generic these decks are, if some decks favour horde teams vs. elite teams, etc. But, if this is primarily to get kids interested in gaming, I think pitting the generic decks against each other will be just fine for a good length of time. Just remember to sleeve the cards!

That new Warcry set... feels like it's crafted specifically to get me. Chameleon boys, and weirdo Jade occult freaks?! Heart of Ghur didn't quite get me with the swamp freaks, but the obelisk guy alone almost makes the team worth picking up. Still not a huge fan of the muscle trees, but eh.. the bamboo rope bridges look like a fun set-piece. Balances out.

My FLGS does have some older sets still in stock according to their website (Champions of Beastfang, Khagra's Ravagers and Arena Mortis which... looks like it's just a map and cards?). I know Mrs Randalor will probably want thenChampions of Beastfang box for the :ghost:.

Actually, now that the topic's been brought up, has GW ever released updated profiles for older teams, like they did with the latest Warcry set or the KT Compendium? It would probably be super easy to whip up a Stormcast team with regular SE models, if you didn't have to worry about tracking down the unit profile cards. Or finding the unique teams on eBay (still kick myself for never picking up Mollog's Mob when they were on sale...)

Giant Ethicist

Looks like she got on a loaf of bread instead of a bus again...
Accepted wisdom seems to be that releasing cards for old teams wouldn't be anything like cost-effective (unless they only did it electronically, which *gestures at GW*).

The good news is that what really makes most older teams weak is usually their card decks rather than the stats and abilities on their fighter cards. So the new and new-ish formats in Gnarlwood means that you could either (for Rivals, the most accessible format) literally just grab an old warband's fighter cards and one of the two pre-built universal decks in Gnarlwood* and just play, or (for Nemesis format) grab the good cards you can scavenge from their old deck and mash them together with cards you like from one of the pre-built decks if you want a bit of deck-building.

*They are, by all accounts, probably both pretty good and interesting to play.

She knows of the Warhammer Alliance program, its more just a matter of A) She's still in her probation period and still getting the hang of things at the school, and B) She's not that comfortable leading things yet, but that seems to be changing (She's doing stuff like leading classes in the library that she didn't think she would be able to do comfortably at the start of the school year).
