Young animals are often curious and friendly, and you can 'tame' wild animals. Domestication is something else. A domesticated animal has been changed from wild type to something that fits in the human paradigm. Most dogs will naturally gravitate towards people, and they have a whole variety of facial expressions that wolves don't, just so they can communicate with us better. The same is true of the cat's meow. People keep birds and reptiles as pets, but they aren't domesticated and if you make the wrong mood, they'll bite the poo poo out of you.

I've got a facial scar from a bite she gave me, plus she's bitten the absolute crap out of my fingers over the years. You keep undomesticated, intelligent animals as pets, you are going to get chomped. They are smart, and they get very frustrated when you don't understand their vocal communication and body language. We've all gotten a lot less bitten over the years because we are all a HELL of a lot better at understanding bird body language. Seriously, there's a kind of "puffing up your feathers" that is friendly, and "puffing up your feathers" that is extremely angry, and you will get bitten if you confuse the two. She's actually extremely mellow and gentle 99% of the time, but if you aren't familiar with her body language, you are going to misunderstand her. The awful thing is that she is 100% open about how she feels, but it took us literally years to really understand her. She must have been so drat frustrated. Hence all the biting.
