Georgia Dunn posted:

Following the order of the major arcana, today’s card is “The Hanged Man”! A card signaling to let go, surrender, embracing the waiting game. Looking for a yes or no, this card winks and says “Maybe?” There was only one cat for the imagery on this card. 🤣❤️ I can’t tell you how many times I pulled him out of a bundle of wires or out of a mess, my sweet forever friend.

Cylinda Oyl is Castor's long-lost wife from the 1920s. The marriage broke up not too long before Popeye showed up, but they reconciled under the recent management change. Also, Randy had her discover her "Dethany from On The Fast Track" side while she was gone, which kind of suits her, to be honest.

NEW: I found Legends in the Heights on gocomics and it intrigued me enough to give it a whirl. It just started in Sept and posts M/W/F so I'll just do one a day until we catch up.

quote:

About Legends in the Heights

Legends in the Heights came from a desire to tell stories about biracial people (nus nus, as is said in Arabic). When I was a kid, I felt like I was from two universes, an alien in both and with no way to reconcile them. A lot of my work is about building bridges of understanding between cultures and, while I hope the comic is enjoyable to a bunch of people, I wanted to give a nod to the nus nus like me.

Jackson Heights is the most diverse neighborhood in NYC, and I wanted to both tap into that and into the “neighborhoodyiness” of the place. It’s buzzing with lovely people who love where they are and aren’t what non-New Yorkers usually think of when they think of “city folks.” Plus, there are some serious eats going on there (this will figure prominently in the story).

What’s a buraq and why did I add one to the story? A buraq is a legendary creature that’s mentioned very briefly in the Quran as the steed of the Prophet Muhammad during al-Israa’ (the Miraculous Night Journey). During al-Israa’, the prophet travels from Mecca to Jerusalem in a single night while riding the buraq.

I love legendary beings. They’re the coolest ever, and I studied them all the time as a kid. I wanted to tie Raia to a creature bigger than life that was also related to her (and my) background. As an aside, buraqs are gorgeous! They’re all majestic wings and majestic hair and majestic faces. I’m super thrilled to have a chance to draw buraqs all the time.

I like Demons of Baseball a lot but I'm not entirely sure I understand what's going on some of the time. I get the general plot beats (Planck's dad recently died, he's given up on Maggie since Maggie is engaged to that hitter whose name I don't remember, said hitter also has apparently done something that's ruined his reputation). But like, this pitcher guy that isn't able to throw well, are we supposed to know him? I only ask because of the scene where he's talking about his fingers, it feels like it's referencing an event we're supposed to know about, but I don't really remember it.

Nap Ghost
The hitter with the glasses is Copper. I think the pitcher here isn't supposed to be someone we recognize, just a guy Copper is venting his anger on, and one who's lamenting that he doesn't have the kind of skills Planck does.

I think Copper has been getting some bad press from being involved with Planck’s father’s death, even if he wasn’t necessarily directly responsible. He’s also just been aimlessly successful his whole life so having any kind of discomfort looming over him is completely alien to his experience.

I really hope that Planck just lets Maggie go, because she’s the kind of shrinking flower character which is just frustrating to read. Absolutely zero personality given to her by the author beyond being sad and upset and unable to break away from her terrible mother and Copper.

I think my only problem is it feels like we should've actually seen way more of Planck playing baseball and getting even better. It feels like we time jumped and didn't really have much baseball happen. I'm still super interested though, the pace just feels weird cuz as another poster said, there's a lot of build up and I have no idea what the pay off is going to be haha.

But I neeeed it.
