It always struck me as odd that the angels blowing up had the look of something as powerful as a nuclear bomb but the city seems fine(ish) afterwards. Also the condition of the city still being pretty good despite the amount of Angel attacks doesn't track. Oh wait I'm not in the IIMM thread.

 isn't that from episode 2? I remember Shinji's first mission ending with him getting his rear end kicked and blacking out in the cockpit and being filled in as a flashback later. Unless they changed that in the remake, I never watched those
