Off we go to fight some poachers.

At least it's just Deepists this time!

Yvilde steps up and wounds two Slingers with a single arrow.

Graylee takes one out.

Ciara finally uses that crossbow she bought decades ago.

The big guys are still out there.

The kids swarm forwards towards us.

They last about as long as you would expect.

I get on taking down the Mushrox.

Ciara can't quite get into range with her axe – and she's still wounded from the last fight. I'm trying to get this done and push back the incursion timer.

Her armour should keep her going.

The Mushrox pushes forwards, but only does minor damage.

We get to work taking it out.

This is the next largest creature.

It's a ranged unit, and it takes another HP off Ciara.

Let's make her less of a threat for a turn. Ciara then runs down the corridor to cover.

We leave her wounded.

The Father heals her up.

Yvilde takes a hit on the other flank.

The Murk mother is boosting them, so I try and take them out.

Graylee takes her out.

We then switch targets to the Chosen.

This guy is getting annoying.

The Chosen fluffs his attack. He's taken out soon after but I missed the screen shot!

Time to gank the healer.

Not forgetting the Chastised of course. The Father tanks the chain lightning bolt.

At least his full time healing is limiting his damage output.

I just miss taking him out.

Ciara gets up in their faces.

Rath gets the kill.

Lark uses fire to finish the Chastised off.

Victory and a level to Yvilde.

I take aid to try and get some healing into the game – I also scrap the loot as it's useless to me.

You what?

Oh sure, assume everyone knows specifics about extremely rare magical creatures.

I guess they cook themselves?

Bye then I guess!
I can't save here, but I think we all know the answer to this one.

Welcome to the team Sparky.

You can see how the difficulty continually goes up.

Dammit! I could have taken ember arrows and had a personal supply of fire.

Double dammit! My plan to keep the incursion back has failed!

It's only one wave, but look at those strength pips!

I quickly secure the site and begin to fortify it.

I say no to Groundskeepers.

I get the team healed and tier 3 defences in place. The other three are scouting out the other side of the map.

How do we defend?

Charging has worked reliably for us in the past.

So to heck with that, let’s be cunning for once. Cunning for Dummies.

Why is my hair purple? It's from the blood of everyone that lost a bet against me.
I'm gonna say Charge myself, because if I recall from the last time we did a cunning ambush, this generally results in our party getting split up so that we can "surround the enemy", which... Is not exactly ideal for a multi-phase battle where new enemies will be periodically joining.

We use cunning to start the fight.

We await them in stealth.

Here comes wave one.

We start by hitting a Butler.

A Villager kills a Weldling.

Rath commands the archers to clear the Spectiks out.

Lark kills a Wardrobe. This is great turn one!

Yvilde deals with a Batchby.

Ciara opens the southern door and finds a horde of enemies.

The coachman rushes in.

And Graylee takes a solid hit.

Wave two arrives.

We meet them with arrows.

We tag team the Butler.

We fail to do much damage in the south.

Lark hits another wardrobe.

The third wave is on the field.

Another coachman comes from the east.

Ciara finally gets a good hit in.

Go down!

Lark loses her armour.

This flank has two heavily wounded heroes on it, then the Sommeliers attack....

Graylee is mortally wounded.

Ciara will take the extra block.

We rain more death.

We finally take down the Coachman.

Then the Sommelier falls.

Lark deals with another Weldling.

The other Coachman is ripping things up.

The Butler does low level area damage.

Then Yvilde is taken out!

Something deflects the hit.

That god drat splinter has just saved her life!

Yvilde is back in the fight!

Lark nearly takes out the Coachman.

Rath finishes it off!

Let's take that Butler out for a turn.

The Sommeliers bypass Yvidle and hit Rath!

The Lightning god dies.

Lets hope his falling helps!

We have an annoying Wardrobe at the back!

The last villager dies.

Yvilde takes out a Somelier.

Archer fell the Wardrobe.

We need to deal with the small things now.

Because this guy is coming back.

Down goes another Sommelier.

And the other one.

Lark takes a hit.

Lets work on the last big guy.

We rain down more arrows.

Die!

We clear the map.

But it's a pyrric victory again.

We built a tomb for Graylee – she had no family here.

Rath deserves a tomb as well.

We start work on them.

We definitely need a new recruit! This is the game acknowledging our losses.

What shall Jia be?

Whatever we have the best equipment for, at this point a newbie's going to die horribly no matter what their class if they don't have some decent weapons and armour.

Oof - rough battle. I've never really fought Coachmen that much - all of that armor shredding and terrain destruction is really rough.

For the new recruit - Ciara and Yvilde are probably close to retirement, leaving us with two Warriors, one Hunter, and one Mystic. I would vote for a new Mystic to help out. Just not sure that the Hunters are doing enough against Morthagi armor.

Pharnakes
Aug 14, 2009
Mystic is a terrible idea now, the coachmen are destroying all of the stuff to infuse with, even keeping one useful would be a dodgy prospect. We need a warrior to replace Cirara.

Mechanical Ape

But yes, occasionally I am known to smash.
I just want to note that Yvilde got her splinter over 40 years ago.

New recruit should be a Warrior and then we should really, really try to keep her alive until a retiring hero can catch her up on XP.

Hunters are fine, if they come out of invis, or there's a few other abilities. Hunters would also be able to scatter and hide and flank, which might need to be necessary, now.

Morthagi hit really hard and are either numerous or too big to deal with immediately, so CC or AoE are almost a must. Every class has options that do those.

Not standing with your friends reduces your block from anywhere between 10% and 90%. It says "when walling with" but the friendship bonus is independent of walling, and works with simple adjacency, including if one of the characters is in the gray plane.

We begin recruiting, and I get the feeling we're scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

Why did we send our most heavily wounded man recruiting? This is what you get.

A warrior you shall be!

He takes the extra armour – he's a meatsheild.

He has a tier 2 spear, so I get him some better armour – it's worth the time, he's not going to last long without it!

We're forming up north of the village, but Yvilde is ambushed along the way.

She look happy about this.

Two strong foes await her.

Of course, she's a rogue, so she just grayplanes and watches as the Butler walks past her.

Yeah, she's properly happy about that.

This I am not happy about though. That's going to make things so much worse.

I block the groundskeeper.

It should be this site and then on to the dam and chapters end!

You lost the Frogheaded Bird Woman? Are you sure she's not just held up after hiding from at Morthagi ambush?

You wouldn't miss her.

Yeah, there is something fishy here.

Looks like the whole village is missing.

Okay, Yvilde, I'm actually disappointed. You avoid the Morthagi only to get captured by this lot?

She's a 70 year old Frogbird. She has no illusions left.

How much diplomacy do we use then?
