Lol I think that's the alt history mod where England and France remained united. Lots of other changes but the absolute best is that Londonderry became Parisderry aka the funniest thing ever

Anyway that's a very embarrassing post and exactly what I expect from most of the grouchy Victoria 2 fanbase

You know, one thing that seems oddly common in groggy “They changed it now it sucks” types is the insistence of form over function. Like, this guy is complaining that supply and demand doesn’t exist because goods are infinite. But in the streams, constantly worrying about and trying to balance supply to demand is a huge part of the game, it’s just represented in price fluctuations rather than physical shortages of goods. But because it’s not being presented in the exact specific format they’re used to, it doesn’t exist, regardless of how well it models the underlying concepts.

I don't understand the obsession with the war system for the kind of game that Victoria is and having your tiny men move around on the map, the war system was extremely tedious in Vicky 2.

Warfare DLC needs to include the possibility for the player to order troops around but it does nothing. The general just does whatever he wants.

How else are people going to wish-fulfill roleplay as Great Men without seeing little polygon soldiers marching under their command?

I will not stop repeating that the real crime is devs not allowing me to set up effective whaling routes for my ships. Or to decide where exactly railroads go (with public transportation rails getting bonuses for scenic routes). Or to conduct the ruling cabinet meetings. Or to organize fairs and celebrations for the people. Some of those things are consistently more important the warfare, and some of them are things that rulers actually did. I understand demanding a game about Alexander the Great or Caesar's times - or even Napoleonic wars - to focus on army movements, but not here.

I almost understood war as a failure state from diplomacy, as in it's what happens when you don't play your cards right and get what you want without having to kill people.

Also the grognards are funny, just play an actual grognard game whose UI shits in your face if that's what you really want!

While I agree with this, its also odd that a game that has war in it, doesnt allow the play to do anything to influence it. Like just pointing a priority target region for the army would be nice.

You make the army by researching and supplying them with goods and you assign generals to lead them (hopefully not appointing any failsons to their position for purely political reason). Having more options wouldn't necessarily be bad, but I think having too many buttons to press re: the actual way in which war is carried out would detract from the economy-building side of army development. Being able to develop war plans before a war actually happens or something like that would be cool.

Also Steam says less than 1 hour, wowsers

Maybe eventually they add some sort of espionage system which is probably on a checklist of things you should represent about the era. This might give some additional indirect control over the army, maybe it can cover developing plans for the attack etc. I really like the idea of hands-off warfare. Maybe I won't after I play the actual game but I don't want devs to compromise on it.

But Paradox espionage systems are, without exception, useless at best and game breakingly awful at worst. They should just stop making them.
