Call it informal polling but in this area he’s got a pretty good track record.

I remember telling my parents that are both Hillary Clinton supporters that Trump is probably going to win. They couldn't grasp that RWM has created this monster. They believed that reason would prevail but it just isn't that way anymore. It is true. People are going to destroy democracy because of gas prices or stupid cultural issues.

The talk about banning books that rightwing parents find offensive reminds me of the fact that a lot of rightwing think tanks have been pushing their own textbooks into schools. Here is an example from a while ago

I tried to get my parents to listen to the Behind the Bastards episode on Phil Mcgraw because they tend to watch his show pretty religiously. This show is basically a way to get middle aged people to start believing the wrong things about a wide range of issues

My hometown was Amarillo, Texas. When someone made a thread titled “worst town you’ve ever been to” I did a Ctrl-f for Amarillo and knew I would find it in there (I did.) It’s a lovely meth town full of backwards, dumbass conservatives that couldn’t think their way out of a paper bag. Its a brown semi-desert with dust and not much else because it swings from 110 degrees to ten below zero like nothing. It’s super high crime and ignorant but because it’s conservative (and largely segregated by race!) right-wingers constantly tout it as a great place to raise a family. It’s one of the shittiest places that exist.

In 1998 Amarillo got a bit of fame when a local cattle rancher sued Oprah Winfrey for saying mad cow disease scared her off of beef and connecting mad cow disease transmission in cows to cannibalism. Oprah filmed there for some time while in town for the trial. This was a stupid lawsuit. Oprah met and hired Dr goddamn Phil to consult and advise on jury selection. Oprah easily won the suit. That’s how Dr Phil came to be invited onto her show and eventually get his own show. It’s Amarillo’s fault.

how can you not love the Cart Narcs. The fact that people get so bent out of shape is so entertaining. They literally get pissed off at being called out for being lazy pieces of poo poo.

I also find it incredibly amusing that Ben Shapiro has to thread the needle between Trumps antisematism not being bad and Kanye Wests antisemitism being bad. I often wonder how he rectifies working with Candace Owens after she basically stated that Hitler pretty much did nothing wrong when he attacked the "Globalists" in his country.

My dad's side of the family is from Amarillo so I can confirm this. There used to be exactly zero black people living there so every time we visited, every single family member was casually throwing around the n-word like it was nothing. Most of them had never even met a black person.

My cousins finally lost their racism when they were zoned into a high school in an area where black people actually lived. They discovered that black people are no different from white people and plenty are super cool, actually. They're now very ashamed of their childhood racism. My uncles/aunts are completely hopeless though.

Amarillo might be the actual worst place in a state that's already extremely terrible.

There are four high schools in town in the Amarillo ISD. One is predominantly white, one is predominantly black, one is predominantly Hispanic, and one is a stronger mix of everyone of all races and income groups. I’m glad I went to the last one.

Yeah, 30 seconds of Hannity today informed me that all the Republicans absolutely crushed their debates the last couple of nights and made mince meat of the inflation commies.

Man, you'd think that every once in a while, one of these motherfuckers would try for a "the socialist dem actually brought up some good points" and tie it into a "we'll play the clips RIght After this (My Pillow) Commerical Break" to bait listeners with a WHAT? and keep them tuned in before pivoting to why that democrat was actually full of poo poo but it's just a constant "everything wrong with anything is liberals and democrats and socialism so buy a gun and worship christ"

So totally not a commercial for theocratic fascism disguised as news or anything like that. Since anyone can call and chime in because freedom.

The big problem is that the Democrats really aren't willing to change any of the systemic problems that are hurting people in their pocketbooks. The leadership obviously does not care or there would be a lot more talk of the economy. It might be that they are taking money from the people that benefit from the status quo as it is and changing it would effect them negatively. All of these issues stem from the fact we are in late stage capitalism and without making massive systemic change these problems will not be helped. Incremental change just isn't enough for the people that make median income and below. Secondly, we have a farther rightwing party that is hellbent on destroying any of the gains that have been made such as public education, USPS, ACA (which I know isn't really that big a gain) and using their media to convince the very people these programs help that they are somehow hurt by them.

I personally don't really know what the real answer for the dems is. They would need to completely course correct and I don't see them doing that.

Even if they were, they don't have the votes to pass more than one law a year.

I have seen some discussion that the Dems as a whole are not even bothering to attack the greedy companies that have raised prices to take advantage of people, because a lot of them are DNC donors.

The messaging has been primarily on abortion, which while I think that is important, is apparently not what voters are primarily concerned about according to polling. The economy/inflation issues are rating #1 by far. They are afraid to even say anything about the economy, even though the issues are not being caused by anything Dems have done. I think it's a problem that they are just letting the GOP blame the Dems for the economy and not really fighting back. We saw this in 2010 with Dems running away scared from any discussion of Obamacare.
