I really liked that they turned the brutalism up to 11 in this episode - the prison planet (had a strong Clockwork Orange/dystopian vibe), the Empire not giving two shits about informants, Dedra torturing/interrogating civilians, the garish cocktail parties with the upper caste at play while everyone else suffers, Vel/Cinta romance denied, and the political infighting amongst extremists. Extremely good writing, acting, delivery and setting overall.

Unexpected to see Andy Serkis come out of nowhere, but he's great in the role. He's totally getting killed before the end of the season (along with the older guy on their crew), but whatevs. Whitaker and Skarsgard had great chemistry.

As far as the inevitable prison break goes:

Get dem shockproof boots
Remove the empire's boots
Shock fest
Hijack incoming prison ship

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same physical model they pulled out of the warehouse for that exterior shot in todays episode, looks like a real set and given the production values on this show I'd believe it is a real set which will show up again later.

Yep, the location is Winspit quarry:

Though I think the X-Wing was probably CG, since one of the downsides of shooting on location is that people can just watch the filming and take photographs from nearby public areas, and it doesn't look like there was any mention of there being a practical ship on set when the filming was initially reported.

It looks like they might have actually filmed inside the quarry as well - or at least used actual photography to reconstruct it, since a lot of the details seem to line up.

I'm really curious if Cassian manages to get out purely on his own (and his fellow prisoners) efforts or if the rebellion will be involved. I'm leaning towards the former because that kind of stunt would really underscore how valuable he could be to the alliance, along with the fact that he was imprisoned for X amount of time and never breathed a word about Aldhani

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE DEAD, MOTHERFUCKER?

I think from the latest episode, Andor is clocking every detail of that place while he's being walked through, and it looks like the prisoners are already up to something. He is going to kind of fit in with something that is already happening (like Aldhani) but prove invaluable to the success due to his effective trade craft.

Either way it's possible so I won't speculate. I will say that if it's a jailbreak by the prisoners, they are going to need a pilot, so Andor would be useful.

It looks like the prisoner that was seemingly gesturing out the window randomly was communicating with someone else in another hallway, so it does look like there's some kind of organization happening.

It feels like a lot of stuff happened this episode, so I need to take some time to organize my thoughts, haha. I loved it!

The Dooku stuff was pretty cool. Loved that the Emperor and Qui-Gon had their proper voices.

Gonna be honest I thought it was weird when the plague doctor inquisitor's head deflated. What was the point of that?

I love Ahsoka but Dooku's episodes were better. It's always weird when I'm reminded that he was still chilling with the Jedi after Episode I but it obviously tracks.

I wonder if we'll have parallel "prison" breaks with Cinta getting Bix and Luthen getting Andor.

As obnoxious as I find him, Seth MacFarlane has given Palpatine more character development than any of the movies, and they really should make it clear that he was second-guessing Vader's efficacy in his role almost as soon as he started in it.

Another great episode. One of the things about this show as well as bits of Rogue One is that I like is how they really drives home WHY the empire is evil as opposed to other star wars media where it's just the organization of nebulous 'bad guys' for the good guys to fight against.

Generally the better star wars books were the ones with less jedi crap. And it seems like even more slim pickings (!!!) if you require that it be in the disney continuity.

But if it's gotta be jedi, if you can accept them being in the old continuity, try matthew stover books I guess

You want Rogue Squadron or Wraith Squadron. Rogue Squadron is in the vein of classic Bigglesworth adventure serials, with daring clandestine starfighter raids and plucky nobodies flying the space trenches.

Wraith Squadron is a little closer to Andor's tone, with hardbitten commando pilots chosen for their moral flexibility, as well as their equal ability at flying boats and cutting throats.

Alphabet Squadron, really gritty, great characterizations.

Loved Wraith Squadrons just kinda petered off at the end cause they are years later and you kinda need to know what happened in the other books in the gap.
