I just didn't read the same things in the same order as you. The gamergate people were publicly "ethics in game journalism" and frankly my initial reaction was "okay who cares if games journalism isn't real its not the end of the world, seems like an inconsequential thing to care about" and ignored it, until I saw something on twitter about it not being that. Not everyone can know everything at once.
