Better to criticise the guy by what he has actually said, they often make fun of politicians' tweets on Novara, as has been said there are solid journalistic reasons for following a prominent politician, and he may be attending that event to actually battle with some bad ideas, hence the title. It's important to push back against the fascists. Happy to retract my support of Bastani if actual evidence he is not politically or morally sound can be shown however.

Why are these 'Battles For Ideas' always about the worst loving ideas possible? Like there's lots of ideas out there, some even very controversial and excluded altogether from the wider debate, but you'd never get "communal childrearing cultures give better outcomes for children than ones that obsess over property and paternity" or "the hard problem of consciousness can be explained by certain quantum effects experiencing one another relativistically" or "monotheism is inherently intolerant and we should encourage polytheism", whereas looking at the line-up you will definitely get "I should be allowed to shag kids" and "indecent photos of kids, good".
