WOKE UP IN THE DESERT AGAIN
I am by no means good at this game (stuck at Diamond currently), but you should have an idea with each piece of information that is revealed if you are favored (edit: or at least Not Likely hosed) or not. Including your initial hand and the first location reveal.

If your opponent is obviously getting destroyed by draws and locations, and you are pretty sure you can finish out 4--5-6 with SOMETHING, then sure, "bluff" snap.

I hadn't tried the hand size/devil dino deck until now but man this thing is a blast. Getting random cards here and there is fun too.

I'm not sure what deck archetype is best suited for exploiting the current hot location? +5 mana randomly. I've been focused on having a nice curve so I dunno what to run as a greedy deck. Some sort of Dino/card heavy deck? I'm in Pool 2 if it matters.

Put Leech in your deck and watch every opponent retreat.

I flip flopped between Leech and Prof X. Ultimately Prof X feels better in my 'Disruption' deck. It's quite funny to lock a zone down super quick.

The person you played was probably playing a Jubilee deck, which is pretty strong with Pegasus cropping up 60% of the time as you can more easily play any 6-drops that you draw. Amy Chav is played to increase the likelihood that you'll draw Jubilee and to ensure you'll always have one big hit in your deck.

Yeah, my thing in most games is to only buy a season pass once I've actually completed the season. I'm almost there now and I'll definitely be buying it.

I do want to mention just how little gold does for you in this game. There are variants sure but otherwise it takes 360 gold to refresh the equivalent of a single day of dailies. All of the progression in this game is tied to daily logins and the weekly quests, even buying the season pass gets you maybe four days' worth of progression.

Official Announcement and First Look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rnAN1-cP6w

Gameplay Walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMEEHH1E8ko

What Is It?

Marvel Snap is the new[1] card game from Second Dinner (home of Ben Brode of Hearthstone fame). Over six rounds (or four! or seven!), play cards from your 12 card deck. Cards like Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and Cosmo the Spacedog. Players vie for control over 2 of 3 locations, locations like the Baxter Building, the TVA, or Wakanda. At the end of 6 rounds, whoever has the highest Power at 2 of the 3 locations wins!

Games take about a minute or two.

It looks like this:

Every couple days, a given Location will be highlighted, having an increased chance of showing up. This unstable meta of Locations causes shifts in the playable Deck meta.

Building decks is lightning fast, allowing for fast "teching" of cards in response to shifts in the decks you're frequently encountering.

How Freemium Is It?

Game is free to play on iOS, Android, and Steam.

Players accumulate three currencies - Credits, Gold, and character-specific boosters. Advancing a card's cosmetics cost Credits and their Boosters. Advancing card's cosmetics (adding a frame break, making the logo shiny, etc.) is the way you advance your collection. You gain Boosters primarily by playing a given card in your deck, though you can also gain them by advancing your collection. You gain Credits by completing daily quests and advancing your collection. Gold is the freemium currency - you mostly gain it by spending money, and Gold can buy new alternate art versions of cards, or more Boosters or Credits.

Cards are unlocked in Pools at random: each player unlocks all Pool 1 cards in a random order before they unlock any Pool 2 cards, and all Pool 2 cards in a random order before they unlock any Pool 3 cards. Pools 1, 2, and 3 are currently out - there are likely going to be two more.

Why is it called Snap?
Players wager a Cosmic Cube by playing. Playing through to the sixth round doubles the wager, to 2 Cubes. Each player can "snap" to double the number of Cubes on the line, for a maximum of 8 Cubes on the line in Round 6. The number of Cubes you have determines your Rank, so wagering Cubes is a game of bluffs and confidence.

[1] For future reference, "new" in that the beta came out in April 2022, and the game launched in October 2022.

There's a lot of weird inconsistencies in this game. Like Kraven can get buffed even if no one moves to his spot due to a full location.

I'm not sure of the reason but other cards that are visible are Apocalypse (when discarded and then boosted for the discard) and I think anything that is discarded from either player.

Speaking of, Yondu shenanigans are obvious for Bar Sinister (location in which any card played there is copied there until the location is full) but last night I learned that Cable works the same way to burn someone's deck since it draws the bottom card of an opponent's deck. Not a copy, taking a literal card from their deck.

Yeah, Brode and team seem to be aiming to recreate this mythological time where everybody was playing Magic as either a broke middle schooler or in a town without a Magic card shop.

I, too, played a game as a broke middle schooler and had fun, but I'm 40 now and I have more money than time.

I suspect that a lack of crafting is a secret hand on the balance wheel. If anybody can make any card tomorrow, the meta gets solved really quickly (see, e.g., every digital card game). But if everybody has a different subset of the card pool, then it takes a lot longer to solve the meta. I may think that Goose is key to a meta-defining deck, but if I have to grind for five weeks to get Goose, who knows?!

Just entered pool 2 range after trying to save up as many credits as possible. Only made it to rank 50, doubt I will be able to reach Infinite with my constant misplays.

I just can't get lucky with Snaps, either they run when I snap at turn 5 feeling confident or they pull out some bullshit in the final moments.

I'm playing a KaZoo deck with Blue Marvel & Onslaught, so it's easy to tell what I'm planning by turn 4. I need to find a new fun deck for early pool 2.

Yeah it's terrible so far. You can get like 400-600ish shards from 20 dollars worth of gold by rolling for new quests. That feels like 20 dollars a card right now, maybe a little less, but still insane. Running into cards you don't have is even worse since it stimulates the part of the brain that says pay to win.

Hello are you me? I'm in the same boat. Even if my Kazoo wasn't getting chewed up by Killmonger, I'd switch just to shake things up. I'm running either Moon girl/Dino or some Control nonsense, though it feels like I had more success with yesterday's hot location. I considered running this plain vanilla looking deck that just seeks to curve out and play solidly: https://snap.fan/p/4d525d9b-b84a-48f7-826a-df3c0ebfee1f/decks/714aba4b-3cc7-4f77-a48a-36d1a657a10c but I lack killmonger.

lmao, somehow just had 2 games in a row where I snapped on turn 5 and they snapped back because they were ahead in Kyln and I knew they thought they had it sealed, yet I already have Ka-Zar out, about to drop Blue Marvel and got a squirrel girl in my pocket to give my Kyln area an extra 3 power 'lil guy for the win. I also really, really like Lizard because he can force them somewhere early game, or you can save him for turn 6 to shore up a spot they're not expecting where you're certain they won't have 4 cards there.

Rank 53, still pool 1 collection level 167, hoping to get to at least 60 for the sweet, sweet credits before the season is out.

It also makes it easier to nerf cards. In Hearthstone they had to refund dust and even still cards that were good only because of the op card were not refunded. People would be pissed at these nerfs all the time.

Now that collections are random and semi guaranteed they can nerf at lot easier.

Not that I would advise anyone to spend $20 on gold, but that amount translates directly to 1800 credits in the shop, so your math is way off here.

Man it feels like you really need to get a few pool 3 cards together before putting together a "real pool 3 deck". Obviously it's gonna be highly dependent on what cards you get RNGd, but any general advice for the transition? Feels tough

edit: first card was Spider-man which I don't think really cracks open any new archetypes for me
