im holding upgrades at the end of pool one until i hit the credit limit and im winning almost every single game with a dino deck + enchantress and heimdall lol, no one expects heimdall in a non-move deck and enchantress just reads "add power to dino" unless shes playable where she just wins instantly. a heimdall + moved dino just straight up wins on turn 6 regardless of what they play with the limited amount of cards im at right now

really hate marvel poo poo but i also played hearthstone for years and i do not care about world of warcraft so whatever
i think the card pool system is really well done its basically different games in each pool, i know card unlocking is frustrating to some but i really like building non-meta decks out of limited amounts of cards in just about every game

thanks for reading.

Man it feels like you really need to get a few pool 3 cards together before putting together a "real pool 3 deck". Obviously it's gonna be highly dependent on what cards you get RNGd, but any general advice for the transition? Feels tough

edit: first card was Spider-man which I don't think really cracks open any new archetypes for me

Spider-Man seriously improves X Control - it's easier to find an empty lane on turn 4, and then you get to lock it on 5 in safety.

Jubilee is the only way to potentially cheat him out with a card in Pool 2, but in Pool 3 you have Wave, Electro, Psylocke, Lockjaw and Ghost Rider - although the latter is better used on Infinaut. Vision also gets an extra move if Limbo is up. You can also get him out early with Sakaar, Workshop/Pegasus, Elysium or The Superflow.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!
I also was randomly given Vision by whichever card/area puts a random card in your hand and dropped him on Bar Sinister turn 5 which was basically "I win" since 28 power distributed however you want is ridiculous.

Yeah it's terrible so far. You can get like 400-600ish shards from 20 dollars worth of gold by rolling for new quests. That feels like 20 dollars a card right now, maybe a little less, but still insane. Running into cards you don't have is even worse since it stimulates the part of the brain that says pay to win.

Why would anyone roll for new quests? Even the "Hard"-labelled ones are like "play a 1 cost card five times."

Ah, that makes sense.

Either way, other than the season pass I'm f2p and I have most of pool 2 already so I still don't see the rush. By the weekend I finished all of the quests I possibly could and... just waited for it to refresh and kept enjoying playing the game even without rewards for playing (because the game is good).

Yeah it's interesting. Apart from spending money on the season pass, whaling is so inefficient that it's not even remotely tempting to me. I did see one Reddit post where someone mentioned purchasing the max amount of credits every single day since the game came out though, so I suppose that's why they call it whaling.

For the OP, if you want.

Beginner FAQ

Game Flow
Players build a deck of 12 unique cards. Each game is usually 6 rounds in total with one Energy available at the start for playing cards and this increases by one each round. Players play cards at a total of three locations, each with their own unique rules/effects, and whoever has the most power from cards they played at each location wins that location--whoever wins a majority of the locations wins the match

Free to Play, but really?
Yes, this game is free to play and even if you pay money it has little effect on your ability to win.

No Wave posted:

There are many variations on cards and this is where the business model comes in. If you like a particular variation of your favorite hero or villain you can possibly buy the variation with irl cash. If not, you can buy it with in-game currency that you naturally acquire from completing daily missions. For instance:

Normal Iron Man:

vs
Variant Iron Mans:

Normal Deadpool:

vs
Variant Deadpools

If you don't give a poo poo about what your cards look like, just what they do, then 1) cool! you can beat people with your deck if you play well and looks don't matter 2) congrats on the impulse control.

Relevant:

CitizenKeen posted:

If you're not playing an All-Pixel deck are you even whaling?

But, the Season Pass?
The season pass is $10 per season (month) and give extra awards but this is completely optional. Each season has a (temporarily) exclusive card. It is only available to Season Pass-havers but becomes collectable to everyone in a few months. So, no card is ever completely locked behind a paywall.

How Do I Get More Cards?
Well, not by buying them or crafting them. There's more to this, but in short: you upgrade your cards in-game as a result of playing with the cards. Upgrading changes the look of the cards--not their power or abilities. For instance, adding an animation or making the background holographic. More upgrades to your cards eventually unlocks new cards. The cards you can unlock are the same for all players but all players will unlock them in a distinctly different and random order. So, on a long enough timeline everyone has the same cards and do not have a benefit over any other player.

At the end of any given match, win or lose, you will get upgrade currency for the cards that you used in your deck (even if you didn't play them in said match).

Currencies In-Game
Credits

Used to upgrade any card along with Boosters. Obtained by completing Daily Missions (such as "play 30 cards").
Boosters
Used with Credits to upgrade cards' visuals (and in result unlock more cards).Awarded after-match for having a card in your deck; only one card is chosen at the end of each match.
Gold
Used to purchase Variants of cards (see above) or to purchase Credits to upgrade your current cards. Obtained through Daily Missions or by paying cash money. Variants do not change the power of cards--just what they look like.

If this is used I have some content for an Intermediate FAQ to write up.

Edit: Maybe I was thinking of one of the other threads but the current OP actually has a decent amount of info. I'm not going to delete this since I already wrote it; I don't care if it gets used or not.

In addition to learning how to Snap better, this deck has helped me climb 30 ranks in the past week:

Best Friends Forever

Agent 13 (1)
Mantis (1)
Cable (2)
Star Lord (2)
Scarlet Witch (2)
Sentinel (2)
Morph (3)
Mister Fantastic (3)
Killmonger (3)
Moon Girl (4)
Blue Marvel (5)
Devil Dinosaur (5)

The key cards here are the BFFs: Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur. Ignoring the rest of the deck, these are key since Dino's power relies on having cards in hand and Moon Girl both doubles your hand and can give a copy of Dino, as well. Since she drops on Turn 4 this gives a potential of two Dinos on board. There are decidedly no 6-Drops on purpose for this reason. Many of the other cards support keeping your hand full: Agent 13, Mantis, Cable, & Sentinel. Sometimes Dino doesn't come up at all but two Blue Marvels is fun, too.

Another benefit of not having Turn 6 committed to a 6-Drop is being able to play cheaper cards at more opportune times. Killmonger on Turn 6 can really change a match. Keeping Star Lord until late-match helps you guess where to put it to get the bonus; same with Mantis if you have the leftover energy. Morph later in the game (but not Turn 6) is pretty likely to end up being a 6-Drop; great for the cost if you get it and it also gives you key info for the last round of the game.

Agent 13, Mantis, Cable, & Morph all give you cards that you would not have access to in your 12 card deck which, while random, can provide a bunch of options to work the game in your favor in addition to depriving your opponent of their own deck (Mantis, Cable).

Odd choices: Scarlet Witch I'm just experimenting with right now and she seems fine. I have used a lot of other 2-Drops and they barely made a significant difference. Mister Fantastic is (usually) 6 power distributed over three locations; doesn't make a huge difference but since this deck doesn't have Move cards it can help reach unplayable locations. I had Collector in here (+1 power for every card that enters your hand not from your deck) but it's a trap; imo it should be +2 power to actually be playable.

For the sake of brevity, I'd alter the first sentence of Game Flow to "Players build a deck of 12 unique cards". It means the same, and you can add "(no dupe heroes)" for clarity regarding variants if needed.

I'm also chuckling at your assessment of The Collector, because he used to be 2/0 gaining 2 power for each card added to hand and he was nerfed because it was too strong.

I see people have replied that it is additional quests, but just to give an example of why you would use it: I started playing last week and I could not let it slide that with 4 days of quests I was going to be at 24/25 for the weekly.

But in hindsight that strive for completion translates to exchanging 120 gold to receive 500 credits, 100 gold and 900 season pass XP (and I am playing enough that will mean an extra season pass cache eventually). That is on top of the rewards from the two additional quests themselves.

I think you are still bounded by CL matchmaking when you hit a new pool, so if you're in early Pool 3 you'll face early Pool 3 players who do not have full Pool 3 synergy decks. If you save up you credits to slingshot multiple CL, then you'll rise too high and get smashed by late Pool 3 players. I can't confirm though, but this is my understanding based on what I've been reading and it's why I'm not gonna "save up" towards the end of a pool, like I did with the Pool 1-2 transition.

On Reddit they're saying this is no longer true and matchmaking just tries to put you close in CL to someone else and doesn't match the whole pool at once. I don't know if this is true but I'm only two cards into Pool 3 and have played a lot of games and I have never seen an opponent with a full-on Pool 3 deck, only like Pool 2 decks with a card or two splashed in it.
