It just seems so crazy because "improve material conditions for voters" is such an easy "one weird trick" to getting a permanent supermajority and Democrats won't do it!

Republicans at least kind of get it with their plan of "improve material conditions for (white male landowning) voters," which is at least something!

Yep. If it's a contest between improving material conditions for voters, which their corporate donors won't like, or their corporate donors, the latter wins every single time.

my wife got the same one, but she had a B (even though she votes even in midterm primaries) lol

I got one that I genuinely was confused about and keep in mind I live in KS:

The front says "Charlotte OHara on the overturning of Roe V Wade: "It's a day to celebrate and say prayers of thanksgiving." And it's got a flattering picture of her and a stamp that says Endorsed by Kansans for Life and a screenshot of a facebook post of her saying that ending abortion fulfills the promises of the constitution. It looks to me like an ad to vote for her. The back says SAY NO to extreme abortion bans! Charlotte OHara has voted for abortion bans with no exception for rape or incest

Apparently this was a mailer from the KS Democratic Party but I had to look it over to be sure. real mixed messages with that ad lol

I mean at least Sharice Davids' commercials have her anti-abortion opponent in black in white with an unflattering picture of her with this giant smug poo poo eating grin and not like the most flattering picture they could find

Yet where is that woman now? Tell me, in what heave does she reside? None of them. Because no God bothered to listen or care. If that is what you think it means to be a God, then you and all your teachings are welcome to do as that poor women did. And vanish from these realms forever.
I expect NY and California to elect red governors given how collassal a red wave I expect. And abortion to be illegal in both states by 2024. I expect a titantic red wave that we've never seen before and it will be absolutely loving horrible for the country.

Yeah I'm not sure what they're trying to get across with the "whether you voted is public record" line but I've seen it in a bunch of those dem "just vote" PAC ads.

If I had to guess I'd think that the next dem strategy is scouring the voting rolls publicly shaming non voters on twitter or something, not getting that the people who don't vote don't give a poo poo about political twitter either.

The Dems thinks this works because it DID work in 2010-2016 (and beyond) on the Republican side. This type of "we're watching you, you better go vote against the DEMONRATS" direct mail actually had some demonstrable bumps in Republican low-propensity voter turnout... so braindead Dems think they can just copy it, divorce it from its purpose and type of voter it targetted, and run the same exact play and win. Insane.

Same thing re: begging for money via text/email. Always existed since the internet, but the Trump campaign used these tools wayyyyyyyy better than the Dems (because their candidate was a Wrestling Character and you cant break kayfabe if they are buying your NWO t-shirts).

here's a largely contextless bit of text from my notes when i was onboarding:

quote:

grew out of Tom Harkin's desire to track unreturned vs requested absentee ballots, this was called 'voter activation network'
Iowa DP wanted state-wide level database based on VAN, this brought about the need to segment permissions to data
In 2006 DNC wanted a national version of this

shared info: names, addresses, phone #s, polit. districts, isDeceased, recorded vote history
private info: questions asked to voters ("who you voting for?" "why you voting?", email addresses, notes, "other data" including propietary modeled data (behavior prediction)

Ironically, almost all of this information is wildly out of date in the various VAN systems out there. Ohio's (for example) doesn't even accurately track people's mailing addresses when they request absentee ballots... you know, the ballots that are LITERALLY MAILED to voters with the full USPS information readily available from the county Board of Elections. Also, the email address lists are almost non-existent and the cell phone data is about 60% wrong.

It'll be illegal regardless of state political parties, the US supreme court just intervened a few months ago to overturn a NY state gun restriction.

I don't expect the NY assembly/senate to flip so even if Hochul loses it'll just be a return to the normal condition of state govt being useless.

its notable that the democrats have staved off a stronger sense of division among their leadership pre destruction with all their leftward punching.

when the republicans get destroyed theres a major disconnect in their ranks and the rebel sect comes back in charge next election while the losers fade away or defect to the democrats as happened with the evangelical, tea party, and qanon waves that revitalized what seemed like a doomed party over and over to the point where they are very much undoomed.

i wonder if when the dems are destroyed they dont pivot at all for a second time since trump.
like obama sucks and wasnt a policy pivot but at least the campaign message, organizing tactics, and face were a temporary pivot. then it was right back to the old faces and no plan to help anyone.

they've spent so much time helping make squad members nationally unelectable that i really dont think they're gonna find anything in the wilderness except more former republicans to sign on with their failed corporate centrism.

Dems lose a little ground but not enough to really call it a red wave, everyone acts smug about not getting blown out while scolding the left about not winning a bigger majority, gridlock continues for two more years, nobody learns anything.

This. The thing is, even if there were a red wave, the Dems would learn nothing. there is a lot to unpack in this lovely SNL skit that I think summarizes the Democrats perfectly. you do not need to watch it, as SNL is violence, I just saw it in the pop culture thread and felt it was relevant here:

- this clip makes fun of young people,, not the political reality they live in, by portraying them as ungrateful and entitled and over-reacting to Biden's age and to high gas prices
- the fake horror movie tagline: "when it feels like nothing is going right, even though it kind of is" is followed by a quip about why worry, Biden has done so much such as infrastructure and holding NATO together!
- it is doing the "Obama wore a tan suit! how scandalous!" type of gaslighting by making like the worse thing Biden has done was fall off his bike
- insertion of the manufactured consent talking point about DeSantis, not Trump, being the GOP nominee in 2024
- the panicked millennials go through a list of alternatives to Biden, but they pick trivial reasons (Cory Booker is corny!") for why they are bad - again, millennials are cry babies is the essence of this clip
- the millennials come back around to accepting Biden
