Making legendary (no gently caress you I refuse the world does not need yet another classification system) is easy with the use of Killmonger. Also bots. Honestly a ton of games feel like 50/50s? Like there are two lanes that could flip and it's between me and my opponent to guess correctly. And my opponent never seems to retreat, evidenced by a consistent one cube bleed from retreat later. Guess I'm just flipping coins with my greedy opponents

I’m not sure I’m having fun anymore. Here are my feelings and you can pick it up or not. For me, I feel like the cubes/retreat is one of the aspects that makes this game interesting for me. Retreating a couple times to avoid getting slammed and then hitting a nice payoff puts me in net positive for the longterm. The cards could basically be any topic that's not superheroes (from a purely mechanical standpoint) but since it is superheroes and supervillains it feels on-theme because sometimes the bad guys will retreat after getting their rear end kicked so that they can come back and do more evil. On the flipside, sometimes heroes get captured and have to escape to fight evil on a better day. I don't know if that clicks for you but thinking about that has helped me enjoy the mechanic and progress modality. Also, imo it makes losing meaningful. The Triskelion put Galactus into my hand and... how the heck is he supposed to work? You need to keep a location entirely open, and alos your opponent can't ever play more than 3 power there, including on turn 6, and it's not like you can lock down the place with Spider-Man or anything first because he needs to be alone. You could lock it down with Spiderman by using Ironfist/Cloak I think. I haven't gotten Galactus yet though so how effective it is or isn't I do not know. I googled for Galactus decks and the only one I saw that made sense involved using Electro or Psylocke to cheat him out on Turn 5 and then win the location by dropping America Chavez and Death there Turn 6.
