ethan is, by necessity, a kinda bland everyman, because he has to slot into the looney tunes world of RE7/8 relatively seamlessly and not have the kind of deep characterization that would make someone react realistically to their girlfriend trying to kill them or them having to fight an army of moldmen and werewolves he needs just enough resonance to read as human and no more than that, and i think they do a masterful job of creating the kind of single-minded quipping machine an RE game needs

i think ethan works as the straight man(relatively speaking,) it's fun in its own way. i don't think of him as bland in the same was as i do, say, kratos or any given modmil protagonist

Ethan has a magical coat and I think not enough gets spoken about it. When he has his hand cut off part of the coat is cut off too and he just uses the magic ointment to surgically reattach his hand and somehow that chunk of cut coat is also reattached???
