Seems to basically be an HM2 clone and a modern sounding circuit that you can blend together.

This talk of flipping guitars made me thing of all the guitars I've loved and lost over the years. They were:

1) Junk shop electro-acoustic my dad's friend was getting rid of. Action was so high circuses could use it as a tightrope. Fate: my brother destroyed this without asking for a school art project.

2) Washburn(?) Bass. Fine, but I only started bass because everyone wanted to be a guitarist. Eventually traded.

3) Yamaha Pacifica. I liked this and started getting more serious, but Uni and life kind of derailed my guitar journey. I gave this to an ex's nephew who showed interest in guitar and they stored it in an attic so it's probably hosed.

4) Some late 90s purple Ibanez. Really light and easy to play but nu metal as poo poo. Acquired as a trade for my bass and later traded along with some money and F-Zero GX for the MIM Strat I still have and love. The guy I got it from hung it on his wall as Wayne's World memorabilia, the poor thing.

5) Dean ML Select. I was 21, had birthday money and a fit of rebellion. Wish I knew more about guitars then so I would have bought something I would have liked more, but hey. Sold last year to help pay for my Telecaster to a pawn shop who listed it as Dean Brown. They tried to sell it at the new brand new price lol.

6) Squier VM Jaguar. A pretty good guitar my partner bought me that kickstarted me playing again, but I have a one-in-one out rule, so it didn't make the cut when the SG arrived. Sold it to one of my best friends (and an excellent guitarist) so I know it'll be loved.

Does anyone else make a guitar in a similar shape to the Jackson Rhoads? I really like that smaller offset V shape.

I’ve decided I want my next guitar to be a V with active pickups and a floyd rose. However I really like the Rhoads shape but kinda don’t like Jacksons and think they are overpriced. Every one I’ve played (to be fair most were cheap) felt really bad compared to their LTD or Ibanez equivalent.

Art & Lutherie parlor guitar - dreadnought for size comparison. i think this was a steal at $479. (the local shop guy said he'd had it since pre-inflation and didn't want to mark up the prices. good for me!)

here's a little medley with it

plenty of volume, decent action though i may bring it in and ask him to lower it a bit more. i like the punchy small-guitar sound. plus it's got a pickup! very happy with this

Get an Ormsby Metal V. All the cool kids have multi scales these days but they make Floyds too. No active pickups though.

You might try a mid- to higher end Jackson if you get a chance and see if you still dislike them. I have a late 90's or early 2000's MIJ dinky with a floyd that I love. I got it used years ago and after I had it set up it plays like a dream. Super fast neck. I think I paid like $600 for it iirc? I like it a lot better than my LTD EC-1000 if I'm honest, although its a bit of an apples to oranges comparison between superstrat shredder and LP style. But if you like the way LTDs/ESPs play maybe look into an LTD Arrow or Arrow Black Metal? I think they're around a thousand with the trem and cheaper used of course. I've been looking at those a bit since I've been kind of wanting a V also and the LTD/ESP have a thigh cut out that makes it look like it would be pretty comfy to play seated.

You should probably try a few more JS32 Rhoads Vs because I've played a few (King Vs and Rhoads Vs) and they are pretty consistently great value for the money.

I'm hiring people on Fiverr to take tabs I have as a PDF and them into Guitar Pro. Because I want Guitar Pro files, but I don't actually want to make them. I'm on a diet now so I think this is a much better way to throw money away than McDonald's for lunch every day which I was doing previously.

I ordered a 3 pack of strings cause I realized I hadn’t changed any of mine in like 3-4 months. I switch guitars enough they don’t wear down too fast but I recorded something on a guitar I had been recording little pieces with over the past like 6 months and when I played the whole song back it was noticeably darker in that one piece so I guess they need changing

I didn't even clock that it updated for the Stomp too. I just checked out Leon Todd's video on some of the new stuff and there's a Sunn Model T model now. That's pretty dope. And the Invective model sounds pretty brutal. I'll have to pull out my Stomp and get it updated.

I don’t really get the invective and still prefer the revv gen models but hey, choices.

The new cabs are really good and the factory preset’s actually sound decent now. You could always get around the old cabs being bad by using IRs but it’s not really convenient compared to being able to just sweep a mic a little bit.

also a model of the Life Pedal :black101: and lower DSP usage on IRs so the Stomp might increase a bit in usability for crazy rigs.

The Stomp cab IRs aren't even bad. There's definitely better ones out there but I made lots of good sounding patches with the stock IRs. That said, I want to mess around with the dual cab setups, that sounds pretty cool. I almost put my Stomp up for sale since I've been using the FM3 for the most part but I need to see how these updates sound. The Stomp is so much more portable and easy to use.

Stomp probably benefits the most, because the new cabs and IRs use significantly less DSP. They said 60-88% less or something like that. And you can run dual cabs/IRs in one block.

I played a little on an amp that isn't a Boss Katana but had a bunch of different presets, and it was kinda fun. Does the Boss Tone Studio offer the same sort of thing? eg I can just save a tone for an East Bay Ray punk sound and dial it over to an Andy Taylor or other generic 80s pop/funk sound then to just crunchy blues? Or is there an offboard jack-of-all-trades effects processor I can plug into a Boss Katana?

This is gonna be just a practice amp, so it doesn't need to be loud and huge.

Yes. You can create presets and save them, then switch between them quickly by pressing the buttons on the control panel or via footswitch. All while still having the ability to go to the settings on the faceplate knobs

Ah poo poo I spent a week with Covid playing my thinline unplugged all over the house and now I'm gassing for an Acoustasonic of all drat things. Never even held one.

e, you know what I bet? All the videos showing off its acoustic sound are coming out of an amp and it sounds like butt actually acoustic.

Also, what I loved about playing the thinline unplugged is how easy it is to play versus my actual acoustic on that delicate finger style jazz stuff. I wonder if what I don't actually want is to go down from 12s to 10s on my acoustic. Maybe I'll try that first.

I don't suppose the Katana Mini does the fun tone stuff, does it? The 50 watt is probably way too overkill for a learner's practice amp. If it helps I've got access to a friend's Guitar Center discount, and worst case I just turn the master volume way down, but is there a lower power amp that does nifty effects?

The 50w has an option for 0.5w, 25w, 50w. They are all just fine for a learners practice amp.

Came here to say this - other than checking it works, I've never even touched anything above 0.5 and it's rarely above about a 2 on the volume and its fine. It's nice to have the option to go bigger though.

really could have used that switch on my mustang GTX. It's fine on clean channels with the master volume knob at the lowest setting but add something with a lot of gain and it's too loud. At least it models pretty decently with headphones on.

I did a test a long time ago where I borrowed an old SLM from my lab, but with the head version of the katana running into a 2x12 I was able to get a nice tone at 65 dBA using the 0.5w setting, and also able to get 113 dBA on just the 50w setting without even putting the master past 10:00. To put things in perspective, a normal cafe is about 70 dbA and you can get permanent hearing damage after 45min at 113dBA (without earplugs). Haven't bothered to bring it all into the lab and actually test it in one of the sound attenuating booths with my good calibration equipment as that's too much effort.

Pretty sure most modelling amps have this kind of feature which is so handy and versatile.

I’ve been wanting a lap steel forever, but the stars never really aligned until I saw this one by Mahalo (mostly a uke manufacturer) and became obsessed with the idea of having a guitar that’s a surfboard like Takanaka. Ended up having to order a courier from Australia to Canada since these have been discontinued and apparently sold out everywhere else.

I’ve never played C6 tuning and am feeling a considerable learning curve, like everything I know about the fretboard is wrong. Having heaps of fun so far though :parrot:

Are there any good "guitar search engines" out there. I found this one but it's quite what I'm after, I'd like to have conditions like "offset" and "comfort contours" rather than the brand-based shape classification that separates strats from the double cut catagory.

I'm giving some thought to a seven string to get ahead of the nu metal revival that must be just around the corner.
