Y'all need to learn how to love the Noctua color scheme which is all the color there is to be seen through my O11D's transparent surface area, which is large.

I haven't learned to love it, but I love the case.

Now that I have a 3080 10GB on the way, I find myself wondering what I might end up doing where I’d really miss the extra 2GB of VRAM. Looks like the original Stable Diffusion repository had 10GB as a minimum requirement, but there have been memory efficiency patches since then?

My Meshify 2 is 100% Noctua fans now, so I would be a customer for that case. Amazon still has some Noctua 3070s in stock too!

it precludes having a short PCB and blow-through cooler, unless they put the power cable on an extension, which would effectively force users to use the included heatsink assembly (no waterblocking)

Dr. Video Games 0031

it also just moves the case clearance issue in the other direction. Granted, I think there are probably more cases that have issues with the top-mounted connector, but the side-mounted connector could still be an issue given how long that card already is.

nope. there was talk to put together the overclocking and watercooling thread at some point, but i think they're still respective low-frequency threads. maybe a better megathread for cases w/ cooling/airflow/perf tuning or something would work

repiv

the pc part picking thread is probably the closest thing, there isn't much to say about cases outside of "which one should i buy" so it kind of fits there

Wasn’t there also something about nvidia not liking end on power plugs since it made cards easier to use in server chassis?

yes but if the card is deeper than standard, which all 4090s are, they won't fit in a server regardless of where you put the power connector so it's moot in that case

I think computer cases are cool and if we had a thread about them I'd like to see discussions about cases from yesteryear and which would be good and cool for modern builds.

New cases are very efficient and nice but also kind of generic. Older cases had more style put into them, sometimes to their detriment, and I miss that.

My current case is an almost decade old, and heavily modified Lian Li V354 and I love it. I'll probably keep it going forever because there's really nothing like it anymore.

E: with the ever increasing weight of these graphics cards, I'm surprised there hasn't been a resurgence in cases that lay the mobo flat. That would simultaneously put the weight of the card vertically on the mobo and also allow for easy side viewing. Seems like it would solve the problem of needing 90 degree PCIE extensions and DARK OBELISKS all in one swoop.

Well I’ll just ask here then.

What’s the current hotness in like the $100-ish ballpark? (Pretty hard limit at 150) I’m currently running a mini-atx board w/ a 2700x. I figure I’ll upgrade that in the next sooner or later and when I get a new board/cpu/etc it’s time for a new case.

Dgaf about rgb but I’m not allergic to it either.

I like the mini-atx form factor but if bigger is better I’m not size constrained any more.

I think there could be more options beside sticking the connector at the end of the card. They could be at the end of the PCB with a recess in the heatsink for the cables. Even better if they were diagonal pointing upwards from the card. The problem is both of these options would require custom socket components, even the first option would require that the latch hook is towards the PCB unlike the standard sockets that have them away from PCB.

repiv

as i mentioned the other day, just putting the connector on the PCB at a 45 degree angle would have helped a lot

they already did that with the 30 series FE cards and then seemingly just forgot

Oh don’t let the fact that I have spent more on corsair RGB products then most gamers have spent on their GPU make you think that I am not into silence as well.

I’m all brown and tan baby, even swapped out the fans on my AIO.

When you have around 500 addressable LEDs in a rig it actually doesn’t matter what color your fans are.

The $100 case situation is kinda rough these days. The price of cases shot up when shipping prices shot up due to how disproportionately expensive they are to ship compared to their actual value. There are still some decent options here and there, but some of the many previous greats you could get for ~$80 are now over $100.

For mATX, there's the Asus Prime AP201. It's sort of like a bigger, all-mesh version of an NR200. It actually has a similar desk footprint to many full-ATX compact midtowers, but it's shorter. It gets pretty good thermals for an mATX chassis due to the sheer amount of mesh, but you'll have to bring your own fans. It's mostly reliant on bottom intake, with the idea that you'll use an AIO mounted on top and intake blowing into your GPU from the bottom. CPU air coolers work too, but may be a bit warmer due to them not having any direct fresh intake.

The Corsair 4000D Airflow is currently the most popular midtower on the market. It's just shy of $100, though you'll want to supply a couple extra front intake fans. The Phanteks G360A is another good sub-$100 option since it comes with three fans and is otherwise a perfectly decent airflow case. You can disable the RGB in the stock fans (just unplug the RGB cables, I assume).

There are a ton more options once you get into the $100 - $150 range. My favorites are probably the Lian Li Lancool II Mesh and Lancool III series. I'm currently using the Lancool III, which I like a lot. There are a ton of nice convenience features that make it easy to work with, and they offer some of the best airflow out there. The mesh PSU basement is actually a pretty big deal, and GPUs run really cool in those cases.

Why can’t there just be a nice, roomy case with solid side panels and a flat mesh front (don’t want the meshify weirdness) for <$150? Just give me a minimalist functional design.

I guess the Torrent is the least worst option, but top mounting the PSU is weird. The compact seems just a little too small, but the regular size seems too heavy also.

Basically I just want a modern version of my Antec Three Hundred Two. https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811129180
