Hatebag posted:My point is that wealth is communal in a communist state. I think china is more accurately described as socialist rather than communist and that the individuals in the ccp are capitalists because they use personally held capital to make money. China is probably the best country in the world but that doesn't mean that words have no meaning Capitalism is a basis of economic production it loses any meaning when you define it by the practices of individuals, it is on a societal basis not a personal one and nobody has the unique ability or authority to change that character, any more so then me walking out in the street declaring the United States to be socialist does gently caress all to change the political economy in the United States does Similarly socialism is just the intermediary period building the conditions for communism. Unless one decides to take the questionable line of argument that a society would like to pursue socialism but with no intent to build towards communism in doing so then it's a useless attempt at splitting hairs to make that distinction you mentioned

If you want cope, look no further than Russian state-affiliated media. https://tass.com/politics/1534437 Russian defense chief orders troop withdrawal behind Dnieper 10 NOV, 00:14 INTEGRATED RUSSIAN TROOP COMMAND POST, November 9. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has ordered to start pulling out troops behind the Dnieper River. "Start withdrawing the troops and take all measures to ensure the safe relocation of the personnel, armaments and hardware behind the Dnieper," the defense chief said, setting the task for Commander of Russia’s Integrated Group of Forces in Ukraine Sergey Surovikin. Surovikin reported to the defense minister earlier on Wednesday on the situation in that area. Defense along the Dnieper barrier frontier is the most expedient option of operations in the zone of the special military operation, Surovikin said. "If the Kiev regime resorts to a larger water discharge from reservoirs or a more powerful rocket attack on the Kakhovka dam, this will create a flow of water flooding vast areas and causing civilian casualties. A further threat for civilians and of a complete isolation of our group of forces on the right bank of the Dnieper will emerge. Under these conditions, it is expedient to organize the defense along the barrier frontier of the Dnieper River," the commander said. "Comrade defense minister, after comprehensively assessing the current situation, the proposal is to assume defense along the left bank of the Dnieper River," Surovikin pointed out. "I understand that this is a very uneasy decision. At the same time, we will preserve, which is the most important thing, the lives of our servicemen and, as a whole, the combat capability of the group of forces, which is inexpedient to be kept in a limited area on the right bank. In addition, this will release a part of forces and capabilities that will be involved in active operations, including for offensives in other directions in the zone of the operation," the general reported. Prior to that, the Russian defense chief requested Surovikin to report on the situation in the Kherson area. After listening to the report, the defense minister agreed with the commander’s conclusions and proposals. "For us the life and health of Russian servicemen is always a priority. We must also take into account the threat for the civilian population," the defense chief emphasized.

As far as bombing goes...obviously they were holding back because the attacks on the electrical infrastructure were relatively recent. I think Iranian drones helped keep costs down but I don't think it isn't something the Russians couldn't have done early in the war at least. It is pretty obvious the Russians should (it a strategic sense) have been hitting it from the get go but that the Kremlin is in its own world.

When was the last conflict where someone did something like this? America typically goes whole hog in their invasions, when was the last conflict that the bigger side settled for a tiny slice then hoped for a better peace terms? Georgia?

Both South Ossetia and Abkhazia have been independent since the early nineties and have held most of their current territory for that time, so I don't think it's really the same sort of thing.

They're right next door, I don't think it was a budget issue since all this stuff is being pulled from storage. they had some really weird lines from day 1. but I dunno, they stalled out like a way long time ago, lost wacky amounts of equipment. a cruiser lol. maybe they waited for maximal pain for winter since the power system is a hodgepodge of soviet/modern crap? its weird no matter what way you look at it.

Yeah I listen to a politic podcast by a couple unnamed Chinese officials from the intelligence branch and foreign service branch . They have said a few times one lesson the Chinese all agreed on is that there is no scenario of invading the outer islands. The only proper way is start a full scaled war on the main taiwan island.

Pretty sure it's a lot easier to cut off Taiwan from America than Ukraine from the rest of Europe. I don't think Taiwan is getting a continuous stream of weapons in a conflict.

Russia is top 2 weapon suppliers of the world. Using Iranian cheap weapons would damage Russia's future contract of selling big clients (India) high end fighters and helicopters. It's like BMW and Honda selling rebranded $2000 Chinese electric motorcycles. There was a line the Russians crossed around summer when they no longer care about prestige and face and code.
