gently caress Windstream. e. I'm paying half of a >$100 phone bill for 6mbps service plus a landline. When I contact customer service, I get a shrug and "speeds not guaranteed" boilerplate. I have no other options. rndmnmbr has a new favorite as of 06:15 on Nov 11, 2022 |

Same, but also my connection drops for about 30 seconds once every few minutes from 8:30-11:00 AM. They just tell me to test the wiring in my house. My wiring goes bad and then fixes itself at the same times every day? The real kick in the balls is that I'm about 100 yards from being able to get 5G home internet. I still have some of the later Nintendo watches, Mario World and Star Fox.

Same, except my connection chooses to flake out 9p-1a. And I would be eligible for 25mbit fixed-base wireless if it wasn't for the wall of massive trees on my neighbor's property blocking LOS with the tower.

Argh, I'm sorry you two have to deal with that. The ISP I worked for did the whole wireless broadband thing, and some of our older towers were LOS and poo poo like the neighbor parking their RV in their driveway could knock some of our people offline. Even working there I paid for my own DSL because it was faster than what I could get through work. 1.5mbps/256k was about the best our service could manage, as I recall.

I had an ISP from around the dawn of cable internet once tell me there was no way the cable modem they supplied me could be overheating, because there is nothing inside their cable modem that gets hot. Thermodynamics aside, I felt like the fact it was getting hot enough to hurt if you touched it and would only stay connected if I ran a little desk fan next to it said otherwise but it still took two hard argued for engineer visits to agree.

It rarely comes into play for me, aside from being faster on those rare occasions I'm uploading pictures or, even more rarely, video. In most of my town if you want actual broadband you're stuck with Xfinity, but the service has been good for me and getting a little better year over year. Where I live, there's a concert venue that's had a few name changes, but Comcast bought the rights and it used to be called the Comcast Center, now it's the Xfinity Center, but everyone still calls it Great Woods.

I think the only name that kinda stuck was Tweeter Center back when Tweeter (a local bespoke stereo system company) owned the rights. I'm pretty sure we all went back to Great Woods just to spite Comcast. Of course, this is part of the Grand Massachusetts Tradition of Ignoring Name Changes, dating back to the 95/128 debacle.

It’s why I budgeted for a single line to be connected 24/7 and bonding as needed for important downloads Think it was around 2500 NOK/mo. for that single line.
